Hi,

I have a quick question regarding some stikers used to cover the name Leica (or other) specially when you travel.
I have a black M6 and I would like use a little sticker to cover the front name and mark, but I would avoid to use sellotape too aggressive. Someone said me that I could use a black paper sellotape but unfortunatly I cannot find paper sellotape black. Any other sudjest? 😕

That Gaffer tape seems just the right thing...

do you happen to know if just one 60-yard roll is enough to cover the logo of my Leicas or shall I order two, you know just in case... 😉

Just be certain it's Gaffer's Tape, and not a cheap imitation. The cheapie will leave much sticky residue, the Gaffer will come off clean.

That 60 yard roll will cover about 5000 Leica dots... unless you are the Shah of someplace oil rich, that should be enough...

Most Leica owners buy one 60 yard roll and then get enough Leica bodies for that one roll.

I'm curious - why would anyone cover up the Leica dot and name these days?

Odds are any thief would be more interested in a Canon/Nikon dSLR and anyone - as few as they will be on the street - that knows what a Leica is will know it without seeing the name.

So this explains how that Japanese collector wound up with all those shrink-wrapped Leicas!

GAS = Gaffer-tape Acquisition Syndrome 😉

order two rolls. then you can wrap it completely around covering the windows and all. Thieves will think you have a tape ball on a strap and you will be all set.

Better yet, leave the Leica at home and just hook a camera strap to your roll of gaffer tape!

Maybe you are right, but I think that "Leica M 6" so big in front of the camera leave me a little worried in the street even if I belive that for a thief Canon and Nikon DSRL are more attractive. I think that I could use the tape also with my SRL... a 60 yard roll it's enough for more than one camera 😀

Glad you took the "ribbing" in good humor. Your tactic reminds me of what some bicyclists here in NYC have been known to do - namely, put tape all over the frame so no one knows that it's a really good bike.

Problem is, theives are then attracted to taped-over bike frames because they figure their valuable! :bang:

and someone has already taped it FOR them!

Wow, here's a pre-taped bike...man, I just finished my last roll on my Leicas..I guess I'll take that one...

It's strange the life: in any case we could write NIKON on the tape 😀 I'm joking but I think that there isn't the right way on this matter: if you use the tape someone could sill the camera and the same thing if you don't use: so why use tape? Just to do the best efforts to avoid a theft, in my opinion. 🙂

No monkeying around

No monkeying around

I used to have mine covered with a Dole bananna sticker. No one monkeyed around with me.

Hmmm,

More and more zorki's and fed's end up "re-styled" as M3's.

Fair cance that one can do the reverse.
Just re-brand your m7 to Zorki or Fed. The crooks will not see the difference and leave you and your camera at peace.

I'm going to get a bunch of punk stickers at x20 in Montréal this summer, and cover my M3 with them. Mostly Clash, I think.

...you can always write "HOLGA" on the yellow sellotape 😀

If you're concerned about having your camera stolen, just make sure you put it in a proper bag (one that doesn't scream "expensive camera inside").
