I am trying to use an early version of a Summicron 50mm (Leitz Wetzlar) 2296102 on my M9 and the focus is quite stiff. Actually, it takes a bit of strength to move the focus ring. What puzzles me is that this lens is not stiff when I use it on my M6. In fact, moving the focus ring of this lens on my M6 is effortless. Does anyone what may be at play here? Is it the case that earlier version of the Summicron 50mm are not compatible with the M9? I would appreciate your thoughts on this question.

Your case sounds like the focusing arm in your M9 doesn't engage well with the focusing action of the lens, while it engages well with your M6. I heard Dual Range Summicron doesn't play well with the M9 and can't move forward over 4m.

Thanks for the info. Do you know if there is anything that I can do about this?

Lumiere, is yours a Dual Range? I think one of the 50mm Summicron versions is incompatible with the M8/M9. It may be the DRS.

wow i had the same issue with a pre asph 35mm summilux...when focusing up to aprox 10 feet all right, but reaching inifite got hard and stiff....
I relaizaed the arm of the rf wheel has a different setup in comparison to my m2, i rearranged it, but already sold my lux so i cannot test it...
A friend of mine who bought my lux has a "new" m8.2 and he is experiencing the same issue.
bye!
