" 8 x 21" suggests binocular specifications, i.e. 8x linear magnification, with 21mm objective diameter. Since it appears to have only 1 viewing lens (rotating?), this might make it a monocular?

"DDR"? The old East Germany?

Yes!
"DDR" = Deutsche Demokratische Republik
In English:
"GDR" = German Democratic Republic

Some kind of a euphemism, really. Today we know how "democratic" this state was.

Thanks guys i think i will put it on the bay carl ziess sends them crazy now how do you list plumming items.

In the 1970s I used to see monoculars and binoculars being adapted for use as SLR lenses. Lens extenders might be more appropriate.

Home and Garden > Plumbing and Fixtures > Carl Zeiss

I think this is right.

It was not a total success... ;)
