Summicron 50mm M

I do love the hood. It seems I never have the right hood for the right lens at the right time. But with V5 the hood is always there. Same for my 90 and (very old) 135 Elmarits.

I think on film the rigid (or VC 1.5, or Zeiss 1.5) have a little more character then the V5. But V5 is too good and on digital the only way to go.

If I'm honest about it, the only complaint about v5 was that when I had a filter on (always), the hood retracted would move enough to push the cap off easily! But I agree the hood is very slick and nicely integrated in to the body of the lens. Maybe only surpassed by the design and feel of the new APO hood. I will get another one before too long.

The big advantage of the collapsible is that it will fit your LTM too if you have that version. Great tonality too.

I like you version v3 photos Helen, but v4 are good as well, personally I find not easy to compare the lenses because light seems to be different. To say the true I always like your photos Helen, whatever verson you use 🙂

I have a Summicron DR, and recently got a Collapsible. It's taking a while to like the Collapsible one, you can accidentally turn the aperture ring and turn the lens barrel into it's collapse zone, and I've had several shots out of focus because I didn't notice. If it had a detent, it's long worn away. The optics themself seem a little less contrasty. I actually sold another Collapsible one a couple years ago, with front scratches. This one is clean and I'll keep trying to like it.

This is nice Eric, and also the bokeh with collapsible Summicron when at wide apertures was creamy smooth. I haven't had this lens in many years but really liked it.

Thank you, David, I will look if I have some shots with the collapsible with out of focus backgrounds.

This one is with the collapsible too.

Erik,

This one ^ is really nice, love the way the avenue recedes from your foreground...really captures it! I sadly have nothing scanned from collapsible but here is an old one made with Dual Range on M6

A few more with the version 3 summicron. This is the same lens that Helen used in the version 3 photos above. It's sharp but not bitingly so. I think it's a wonderful lens.

Wonderful Photos Steve
