What does this mean in the upload screen?
When I upload a 900px wide file and I want to preserve the size, do I have to check the option or not?
1000px - If you wish your photos to be sized smaller than the default 1500 pixels, Select this option.

Some people have only a large picture and they dont want to upload a large one. so this will just resize a larger than 1000 pixel image down to 1000. It was something that was requested a while ago from one of the other sites using the software.

So, I created a collection in "edit collections" and then went to "my collections" where the new collection title appears but the big window says I don't have the privilege of viewing the collection. All I wanted to do was to begin grouping the images in collections. What did I do wrong?
Ok, there really isn't anything wrong there. Since the collection is empty it is just displaying the thumb nail for a private collection. I actually need to make a thumbnail for "Empty Collection". My bad, something I need to get around to doing.
You can add individual pictures to your collection by editing th ephoto then adding it to a collection. Or, click on batch edit, select all the photos you want then add them to the collection.
Jorge: Could we please have the date of picture posting back in the browser ? The new gallery makes the weekly gallery picks now impossible. Or am I missing something ? Thanks.
please provide more info. I dont quite understand.
If you want to see 1 week old pics, just select that from the gallery drop down menu. Just let me know the details.

There is an inconsistency in returning to the New Gallery from an opened posted picture, and from an opened comment picture - in one case you 'close' the page, in the other you 'go back'.
Just dropped out of RFF again because I forget about this inconsistency.
It's a pain, and in the best scheme of things shoudn't happen.
Hope it gets fixed.
Strikes me all the business of being able to search for pictures based on lens or camera data is a complication to the system that won't be used by too many. How many wanted it anyway?
The multisized pictures now displayed by the Gallery provide me with uncomfortable viewing. They used to be all the same size, why not reinstate that feature?

Things must be slow in Malibu if you were able to put so much time into the new Gallery

How do I search for images by a particular photographer? Seems like that should be #1 priority over cameras and lenses... but then again, maybe the camera/lens culture is creeping ahead these days.
Also, there should be a place to enter text for each search category that sources from the list (in addition to the drop-down menu). This would make it easier/faster to search from an extensive collection of cameras, lenses, and film. I gave up trying to use the camera search option with the drop-down menu. I just don't have 15+ minutes to spend on trying to find "OM-1" in a list of thousands of cameras...
Thanks for the effort and good luck with the refinement process! It's getting to MVP (minimum viable product) stage.

Just looked on 'My photos' and notice that pictures are now ordered as to the date that I posted them rather than in the order of being viewed my members. The first photo, in the top left corner, was the one last viewed. I found this to be a useful feature because it was an indication of what was attracting attention.
Is the present date order the result of the transfer over into the New Gallery, or is this how it has been constructed?

You can search for a particular photographer in various way.
When you see a photo you will see the photographers avatar and the photographers name. Click on avatr to see the profile with pictures from the photographer or click on name to see only pictures from the photographer.
You can click on Members, find the photographer and again, click on the name or avatar.
Or if you know the photographer name you can just add it to the url like this

I saw that the current gallery settings on RFF have changed. Will the photos currently sitting in the previous gallery still be applied to the contest, or is there need for re submissions?

I like the larger images in the new gallery but I use the VBP Iskin for RFF and I notice there is no new gallery link on this version
Can this be added ? I do prefer the white background

RFF is one of my favorite sites to interact with, largely because of the great work shared in the gallery. And I've always loved the gallery's clean aesthetic for its uncluttered presentation of our photos. It's a cool idea to be able to search by equipment, but I'm sad to see the old gallery format go. In addition to the jaggedly-sized new thumbnails others have mentioned, the individual photo page itself is quite distracting from the work. The five big, blue tabs on the right edge of the posting as well as other large thumbnails off to the side make it pretty hard on the eyes to concentrate solely on the work. Also, are all of the old comments now gone? That'd be a bummer.
I appreciate all of the work that goes into this (blessedly free) site, but I thought it might help to share feedback since the gallery experience is, for me, the single most important aspect of RFF.
