Terry Richardson Bashing

Not to change the subject but what about the reputation of David Bailey? The movie Blowup is said to be loosely based upon him and the scene he was in and I think the flick shows him to have been a little randy with the models. Was he different than TR maybe a little more discreet?
Yes, he slept with lots of them. A quick Google reveals:

Even though it's in the Daily Mail, it's a fairly accurate representation of what went on in the Swinging Sixties. But times were different then.

Cheers,

R.

Out of honest curiosity, what do you mean by "looking french"?

I would say very classy, pretentious, civilized, dramatic, and romantic. Almost a film noir type aesthetic. I love the french style but its good to see some variety.

I think this commercial was directed by Richard Avedon but this is kind of what I'm talking about.

It seemed like in the 80s and 90s everything in fashion was like that. Terry was anti that so that's one of the reasons he was celebrated.

That and of course "Antifragile", the third in the trilogy. I can heartily recommend all three -- and like you, I read Black Swan first.

Cheers,

R.

"the Black Swan" was a tough read, but quite interesting. We seem to have problems with extreme events being more common than we think. Are the next two easier to read?

Dear Al,

I found Fooled by Randomness easier but Antifragile a little chewier. Then again, once you have understood The Black Swan, Fooled by Randomness is inherently easier.

But then, I've been reading a lot of politics, economics and even sociology lately because (after all) it's about our future. It's all very well to pretend that we can hide behind old RF cameras but there are limits to that strategy.

Cheers,

R.

I read the Black Swan, but that doesn't mean I understand it. I too read a lot of economics stuff. I liked "The Great Reset" , but it probably means more to those of us in the US than it might to those on your side of the pond...

That's his signature, how that became trendy is something I'll never get. But as Al indicated with regards to Twitter, quality isn't necessarily a prerequisite to popularity.

Well there is currently a trend for both overexposed and underexposed images. I guess awful is the new black. At least the cross-processing fad gave us something interesting, as opposed to bland and lifeless.

Too true. Some of today's digital fads appear to be clones of yesterday's darkroom errors. I think there are filters called "poor fixing" and "oops forgot the stop bath."

All these guys bashing Richardson need to post a link to their work. The people who are the most vocal and critical rarely ever have anything to show for themselves.

You want some shots with on-camera flash against a white wall? Sorry, that's not good enough to post on my site.

🙂

I lol'd.

How about a ceiling? That's twice as edgy as a wall.

Why would that matter?

If a rapist is a photographer who takes better pictures than me then they're not a rapist?

If mine are better that means they are one?

Think harder.
