Cat picture!
I ran across someone posting on a forum who just got a new camera (or lens) and was talking about the jump in detail he was getting from his cat photos. I began to wonder how many men buy cameras to primarily shoot their cats with. A curious subculture.

I couldn't resist! This was actually shot with a 105 Nikkor and no, I didn't get it to take pictures of her!
i have an extreme dislike for all things bokeh!
buying a lens because of how the background blurs seems ridiculous...
countless arguments about it seems even worse...
but you know what?
i just caught myself looking at an image and thinking to myself..'man, that bokeh sucks!'
i give up
you all win
i'm gonna go and take some sleeping pills now...:bang:
I accept your surrender and allow you to stop down your lens as you see fit.

imho, the best bokeh is the one that doesn't bring attention to itself and helps directing the viewer towards what IS in focus. then again, not bringing attention can be subjective.

must be a fellow cat blogger.
back to bokeh, i like bokeh when it adds to a photo, but i also think it alone can make a photo. i suppose that this is the kind of photo that bokeh haters especially hate, but i like it and really dont care what they think!

Umcelinho's post nails the bokeh nail right on the head for me. I don't shoot wide open much and certainly not for bokeh effects. Can't stand swirly bokeh and lights in a photo.

Who says bokeh has to be smooth and creamy? I deliberately choose a Canon 50/0.95 for this portrait knowing that the highlights would totally weird out on me. My friend loves this picture, mainly because of the crazy bokeh. If she's happy, then I'm happy. Pic taken wide-open at 0.95.

If Joe don't like that bokeh portrait then he is too old.

The following photo is crappy but the bokeh is not. I posted it here a few days ago to show what wonderfully soft bokeh can sometimes be produced by inexpensive lenses. In this case a Pentax Super Takumar SLR lens 55mm f2 from the 1960s mounted on a Sony NEX.

what bokeh?

D'oh!
I have to admit the only time I notice bokeh is if it is is distracting . That is you notice the background more than the focus of the photograph. The only thing that annoys me as much as the " look at my bokeh " thing is cat pictures. Why do people assume their sleeping cat is interesting to anyone but themselves. Sorry had to get the cat rant off my chest.
The combination of cat pics taken by bokeh nerds is the absolute worst!

Don't give up.
If you were looking at the bokeh, it's only because the photo wasn't good enough.
