i liked the 40 when i had a cle but i like it even more on the rd1...can't really say why. i have always like the 75 fov also and love a 50 on the rd1 but the 50 and the 40, though close, are different enough to make me want both.
it's great having a modern 40/1.4 but i equally will be enjoying my slower 2.8 when iy arrive next week.
and while i enjoyed my cb 900 i also liked my little 650 touring silver wing.

I have both the M-Rokkor and the Nokton. I use the Nokton a lot more. It's the more versatile lens. I had a Summicron but got fed up with all the filter and sunshade issues.

My only 40mm lens is a Summicron-C that came to me with a CL. I have now sold the camera but I couldn't bring myself to sell the lens. I once compared this lens with a Pentax 43mm 1.9 L. The results were very similar as both lenses are excellent overall. The main two differences:
1. The Pentax 43mm is larger.
2. The Pentax 43mm costs more.
Still, I bought the Pentax 43mm lens! I now have 40mm lens and a 43mm lens.

NO! I do not have a 43mm lens! Only 40, and jump right to 45. Maybe I can turn the Oly 42/1.7 on the Dead Olympus SP into LTM...

This is my first post to a forum. I can’t resist this topic.
When I head that Leica would come out with a 35 Lux ASPH that can actually focus on my 8.2, I sold the Lux and got on the waiting list for the new lens. I bought a Summicron-C to hold me over until the new lens would arrive. I love the Summicron-C so much, I bought a second one and an M-Rokkor too (At least my M-Rokkor example is not as well made as the Leitz versions, but optically identical). The Summicron-C is my favorite lens of all time. I love the weird bubbly bokeh and sharpness. I've canceled my order for the new 35 Lux ASPH.
I have a 50 CV finder on my M8.2 to use if I want to see the actual frame and a 40 CV finder to use if my M9 will ever arrive. I hope CV will make a 40mm version of their metal finder. The 28 metal CV finder I use with the 21/4 Skopar on the 8.2 is much better than Leica’s finder (I have one of those too). I’ve found that Heliopan filters work perfectly (and better than BW, Leica) with the weird threads on the Summicron-C.
The other nice thing I personally like about a 40mm lens with 50mm frame lines in the viewfinder is that the frame lines show where the subject should be in a 3x3 grid. Because of this, I now prefer 40mm over any other focal length. I feel a bit like I’m back to the days of my TLRs with respect to this grid-like relative frame lines property.
I have a CV 40/1.4 and I do not like it as much. To me, it has less character than the Summicron-C. I do also have a CV 50/2.0 Heliar which I love and which yields wonderful, surreal character. If you like lenses with character like the Summicron-C, you will like the Heliar too.

I have about a dozen fixed-lens RF's. I'm thinking of hacking some for the u4/3 camera.
But right now, I have several lenses waiting attention. None of them 40, 42, 43, or 45mm... In fact, they are all 50/1.5 Sonnars of some variation.

Bob sent me his 43mm Pentax, and when he saw the side by side results with the Summicron-C, he could not tell the difference.

I'm surprised that there is a substantial difference in votes between Summicron and Rokkor. Can there really be a noticeable difference in imaging?

Maybe Leica lenses are good and have fans... 🙂 Both lenses (all) are great and almost the same... To say it other way, every day I pray for better scenes...
