the nokton 35mm f1.2 introduced me to 35mm.

i couldn't get my head around that focal length at first, but the nokton really really makes me happy.... the weight is no burden, it's supporting even, the hood is cool and works, it does not block too much, but with 35mm, it takes much more courage to take a picture since you have to get much closer 🙂

i love the bokeh it creates and also, wide open, focusing is not an issue

I too like this lens, have used it on M6, and 7, thought it was expensive when I bought it, it seems worth it now and just sent it in to have it modified to try it on the M8. My first uploaded photo here was shot with it on the M7, the one with the most views, though I think it was the subject. ;-) I recall I was shooting wide open available light as I was in an apartment in Prague.

Your shots show this lens is right for your eyes.

Same here - I like many lenses, but this one is truly Special! Best 35mm lens IMO. Yes, better that Leica and Zeiss from what I have seen/used. At least for my eyes. If Cosina makes the same in 50mm they will have a bomb! I hope to see one!

My first Leica M-mount lens is the Heliar Classic 50/2, but the following Nokton 35/1.2 really gave me much more joy too. Although it was kind of my "poorman's Noctilux" when I bought it, I'm not selling it even when I got a real Noctilux last week. They are just different.

It was set-up time for the Red Bull Soapbox Derby. I had some 80 iso Plus X loaded in my R2S (Bessa R2 with Nikon Rangefinder mount). I decided to try it out in low, really low light! This is at f1.2 and 1/4 sec handheld. Not the worlds sharpest picture, but that has more to do with the handholding at 1/4 sec than the lens capacity for rendering things sharp!

Another shot at f1.2 with the Nokton 35f1.2. I shot the entire roll of iso 80 Plus X at f1.2 and only varied the shutter speed (from 1/2 to 1/8 - it was a dark and stormy night!). I like how the OOF of the car makes it look more like a 1:18 scale model than a real car. Focus was on the parking meter post and illumination came from a shopwindow behind me. I think it was 1/4 sec or maybe even 1/2 sec handheld.
The Nokton 35f1.2 is an amazing lens. i find it far more useful than the Noctilux 50f1.0 and most likely even more useful than the just announced Noctilux 50f0.95 (at a mere $11 000).

Love the first shot Tom. The Nokton is just a kick ass lens regardless of price. It has nil focus shift, outstanding construction quality and looks better at 1.2 than my Noctilux did at 1 or 1.2.

If it said "Zeiss" on it it would be $4,000. If it said Leica it would be $8000!

(If it said Ermanox on it it would be in a time warp).

i have the 35/1.7 Ultron which seems to give very nice OOF rendering but i keep lusting over the 35/1.2 Nokton with the faster maximum aperture and closer minimum focus distance.

i've looked at many examples from the 35/1.2 Nokton but just can't make my mind up whether the OOF rendering is 'nicer' or not. some shots look beautiful while others appear to have a bit of double lining and bright rings to the edges of OOF highlights.

i'd love to hear from people who've owned and shot with both the 35/1.7 Ultron and 35/1.2 Nokton, which one did you seem to like the best in terms of image rendering...it's ok to say you don't know why you like one over the other...i understand ;-)

also, although the weight of the 35/1.2 Nokton is not a concern to me, how much of the view does this lens block on a Bessa R2A?

daughters of friends at a gallery opening at the weekend. just a bit of foreground manipulation to black out some distractions and a soft focus filter in PSCS3 but otherwise a fairly clean grab. late afternoon. gloomy light at a window. harsh makeup as they were dressed in character for a 19th century theme of the exhibition... love that 1.2 !

I actually miss the 35mm f1.2 - I still like the 35mm f1.4 (regardless of reviews etc.) but that f1.2 is something special; regardless of the size...
