I know it's been said here already, but let me say this: keep the MP and 2 lenses (for me it would be 35 and 75). Sell the rest and do whatever you like with the money...

I LOVE my Leica gear, and hope I'll never go crazy and sell it all.
I use a 5D aswell besides my Leica M6, been thinking of the M8, but got the 5D instead when the delivery time here in FInland for an M8 was so long. The problems the M8 had in the beginning didn't help either.
I think you should save the MP, 35mm and 50mm lenses. Take them out when you want to have some old style film fun!

ps, if going digital with a SLR, you being used to big bright viewfinders, then there is only one option and that is Canon. Nikon is a super camera, but the 1,5X crop makes for a small viewfinder. Full frame is the way to go!

I'm being told to put my name on the list pay a 10% deposit, and I'll get it in 6-12months time! :bang:

Just wanted to say good luck with it! I would also think that keeping one Leica and two lenses sounds reasonable to me. I may never afford a Leica, much less those kind of lenses to play with but you have to do what you think is right. As for Nikon Dslr, I have a D50 and it is more digital camera than I will ever need, in fact it collects a lot of dust, sometimes I use it for my job (not photo related) but other than that, I am a film person. The nikon D50 is an excellent camera, you don't have to go crazy and get anything more than the D200 I would think! I personally might try the 4/3rds Olympus gear for dslr someday....have fun with it whatever happens!

Shock and awe aside, am dying to know what that Nikon user friend could've whispered to Jorge. Sounds to much like a Jedi trick..

The best camera is one that still works!
I actually don't have a problem with Jorge bailing out of his gear ... may I suggest though ... getting an M3 or M2 with an Elmar or Summicron 50mm to keep yourself in touch with the soul of rangefinder photography! I see it as sanity/reality for around $1000.00 🙂

Impulsiveness will get the better of you. I would hold onto the MP a 28, 35, 50 and 75 lens and sell everything else. Buy a decent scanner and put the rest of the cash into 401k or go on vacation. Do a lot of shooting and become a master of your camera. I have seen this churn with watch collectors and you come out behind. I get GAS like everyone else but I keep my head about me, I always ask do I really need this to take a better picture. At this point for me its not so much about camera and lenses but darkroom gear in particular, an archival print washer. Not glamourous but helpful.

I've more or less decided that when I get a job (a permanent one, after my current contract job ends in August), I will spend a lot of money on an a-la-carte Leica. Will it make me a better photographer? No. But handling, nay, fondling a camera is half the fun, surely! And with a job will come the money to pay it off. And if it's the last film camera I ever buy (likely), then spread over 50 years as a camera and many more as an expensive paper weight for my future kids, it's really not so bad 🙄 .

Aside from the big chunk of cash, I don't see it selling in one lump except that subconsciously perhaps you really don't want to sell it? Jorge if you change your mind on selling in one lump sum please PM me as I need?/want a few of those Leica lenses.

I shoot with Nikons for a living. I just got my first m6 and 50 f2.
Its a different experience shooting with a leica. No better, no worse. Its different.
All I can say is this. If you like photography, start taking pictures. Stop worrying about what gear you have (and what gear you dont have).
If you just want to buy and sell camera gear, well thats fine too. Just don't xpect me to take your photos or your photography seriously...You have an amazing rig, with amazing glass and camera bodies. If i were you, i'd start using them and stop worrying about selling them.
And for 26k. Most photographers would be better off, buying a used d70, some old nikon zooms. Taking a year off from work, traveling the globe, and taking photos that people want to see...
