This must be a joke.

I shoot with Nikons for a living. I just got my first m6 and 50 f2.

Its a different experience shooting with a leica. No better, no worse. Its different.

All I can say is this. If you like photography, start taking pictures. Stop worrying about what gear you have (and what gear you dont have).

If you just want to buy and sell camera gear, well thats fine too. Just don't xpect me to take your photos or your photography seriously...You have an amazing rig, with amazing glass and camera bodies. If i were you, i'd start using them and stop worrying about selling them.

And for 26k. Most photographers would be better off, buying a used d70, some old nikon zooms. Taking a year off from work, traveling the globe, and taking photos that people want to see...
 
I'm not sure what the "sin" is here.

If your, interests, wants, needs or whatevers have moved on then why not sell off what you no longer desire.

As to your price - that's between you and your buyer.

Good luck, move on, don't look back....
 
If you want to do it fine, but why? You have an amazing rig. Most of us, film or digital types, can only dream of such an outfit. And yet, me thinks, the rig is NOT the point. Be thankful you have some form of prosperity in your life to afford such a fantastic outfit. Now be a photographer and shoot, shoot, shoot with all that great stuff. trust me if you go Nikon, canon or even BenQ, you will always long for what you lost. Good luck. This disease is not unique to you, me have it, too. But luckily, I guess, I haven't the bucks to screw up. Jorge, boy you hit a raw nerve for a lot of us. Hang in there.

Consider going canon for much better versatility with other lenses thanks to focus-confirmation mounts: you'll be able to use nikon lenses, contax lenses, leica R lenses, some medium format stuff, and so on.

I think you're being unfair to Jorge.

As an observer here at the time; nearly 2 years ago Jorge purchased the digiback for his R8 (or 9 - not sure) and posted some pics of the Grand Canyon.

He was entrhralled by them and that probably planted the seed that has grown into the idea he now want to act upon.

While I could not make the same "all or nothing" decision that Jorgh's done - I don't feel better for it. In fact, I have a bit of envy for him being able to more narrowly define his future photography interests.

If I were to do as he is doing, I might choose to do the same and go DSLR - or, perhaps instead, concentrate on a different mode for pursuing photography.
 
If you decide to go digital, Canon may offer more verstility, but Nikon's are like rocks. It all depends on what you want. Do you want a camera that offers more featers for a shorter lifespan (Canon) or do you want a longer lasting, sturdier camera without all the bells and whistles (Nikon)? I personally would stick with your current gear because it's friggin' nice. Alas, neither I nor anyone else on this forum can decide what is best for you. So, if you feel that digital fits you, by all means go for it.

If you are shooting for money as in for events, - for a living, then just go do what every respectable American does when he NEEDS something -Charge it on your Master Card. And it WILL pay for itself in no time. That's the point you are missing here. Digital pays for itself in a short amount of time and you don't have to sacrifice your other cameras to invest in it. Let me repeat that -IT PAYS FOR ITSELF IN A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME.

Just because you have gotten bit by the digital bug you are going to throw everything away??? You are not thinking rationally!! It sounds more like a cry for help that a major sell off. Unless you are in need of some serious cash to pay your lawyer, bookie, doctor, child support, _______________ you fill in the blank. A new digital is never going to be worth what your Leicas are worth in every aspect. The only way to have a real perspective about any photography tools and what you are intending to use it for is to compare side by side in all the pros and cons. But don't get rid of your real cameras for digital fever.

Sure it's OK to use digital but not at the expenses of your ART.😱

I don't know, it looks like to me that you can afford all the gear you want.

Echoing all the sentiments of the previous posters - sell it all but 1 camera and 1 or 2 lenses. Use this setup ONLY for 6 months. If you want, but a 30d or the equivalent nikon and a nice zoom for a total of $2-2.5k. Put rest in bank.

You end up with 2 cameras, 3-4 lenses, thousands of dollars, and probably a heck of a lot more enjoyment from the hobby than before.

Having experienced the M8's high ISO, you will find yourself right at home moving over to Nikon.. it'll be a seamless switch.

However, you'll never experience something like this with the M8.. so it serves you well to switch.

If you plan on going 100% digital for pleasure shooting then it is hard to justify the cost because it comes out of your pocket and you may not be itemizing on your taxes for these expenses. Leicas are a few of a handfull of cameras I know of that will hold resale value. $1500 for a 35mm camera is rare. I think the value will continue to go up only because of collectors with real money are willing to pay. But that is another thread.

I've often wondered whether the pawn shops in Las Vegas are filled with stuff like Leicas and other great stuff...They wouldn't be bargains because good pawn shops check the Internet carefully but you never know...I've never gone to Las Vegas but I have picked up some good stuff in pawn shops, but no Leicas, in some of them for reasonable prices...So, if you manage to stay out of the clutches of the casinos, you might check the pawn shops...

I only read through the first few pages, but like everyone else here, i'm rather stunned. But, whatever. I'm also getting out of Leica-M, so i sorta understand.

What i don't understand is the interest in the Nikon system, "because your buddy is pushing you that way?" Yes, you can 'natively' use the new Zeiss lenses, but have you researched those lenses? So far, they haven't been too impressive. The 50mm/1.4 may be pretty sharp, but the bokeh is horrid. The 85 is classic, i'm sure - like the 85/1.4 i had on the N1 system, but this new one hasn't shown itself to be better than other offerings. And there's a 35/2 Distagon. Maybe that'll be good.... But, consider the CANON system. The Canon L 85/1.2 is a world class lens. The Canon 35L/1.4 is a world class lens. Canon recently released a 50mm/1.2L. Jury's still out, but i believe it also is an impressive piece of work. And, here's the kicker - the EOS mount allows you to use just about any glass you want. Put Leica-R lenses on it. Zeiss F lenses. Nikon. M42. Contax.... Whatever. It's the most versatile system, and it's already full-frame. Get a 5D, and those three Canon lenses and you'll be in heaven.

But, keep the MP and the 50mm. The 50-ASPH is still the best lens on the planet. And, you will feel like shooting some film, even after looking at those beautiful 5D files.

Either way, i would suggest you NOT go hog wild, and buy EVERYTHING at once, for whatever system you get into. That kit you're selling is fairly ridiculous. It's so much, that i'm not even envious. I don't understand the need for so many different lenses.... Most of the photographers i 'worship' have made entire careers from one or two focal lengths....

I don't know, Nackebia. I've seen tremendous images produced with Canon's "holy trinity": 35 f/1.4L, 85 f/1.2L, and 135 f/2L. And although the 24 f/1.4L doesn't match up to those three wide open, there's no other lens like it.
 
Interesting perspective, Nachkebia.

I don't know how it reconciles, though, with all of the "amazing" images i've seen, produced by those lenses. And, why they'd be chosen by so many acclaimed professionals. Which ones did you have? What problems did you experience? My 'opinion' comes from direct comparison with both Leica-R and Leica-M. Yes, the 35 and 50 Summilux-ASPHs are better, but with fewer design restrictions, that's to be expected. But, as far as SLR glass goes, my comments stand.
