This Weekend's Photography - Challenge ?

Ok.. finally.. 🙂

Sorry but it takes me so long to scan 🙂

Here's a few from this weekend - all shot on the M3, Fuji Neopan 1600, using mainly the Voigtlander 35 Ultron (which I'm discovering is one seriously sharp lens), and my collapsible 50mm summicron.

Cheers
Dave

Dave you sure got around, lessee... St Larry, Kensington, Spadina... I'm tired just thinking about all that travel. Nice shot on Augusta and Baldwin

this is a knock out . Great shot.

Here's mine.......sorry, Photo101 assignments due Tuesday.
The good news is you CAN have your kid drive over a 20' air release to do this mandatory shutter speed assignment. (And I'm going to score large for originality, the rest of the class was taking pics of cars going by.) Just put a plank because the little rubber ball is hard to hit...
The other two are Hamilton escarpment shots. All done with my beater M3 and a 35mm bug-eyed F2.8 Summaron, Tmax 100. Developed in Tmax liquid in my cantina right beside my prosciutto and pickled eggplant.

Thanks Peter....just scanned and slight unsharp.......
But I'm going wet, the quality of the DR prints I'm getting at Mohawk on glossy Ilford MG1V RC paper are amazing me.
Bought a big brand new Saunders 6700 (never used) Dichroic enlarger, dial-in filters, the neg carriers never opened, a big black Gralab timer, about 25 trays, 4 dev tanks, easles (no 4-blader though), all the fixin's...$250CDN. Lens is a 50mm Rokkor F4....definitely willing to give it a shot before buying another lens for it. Holy crap, what a deal.
Got it from Camtech in Hamilton, he's got another one......

Dave,

Nice shots with the Neopan 1600. I'm curious what you rate the film at and what developer you use. I like the tonality that you have squeezed out of 1600 ISO film.

You got a great deal on that darkroom gear, Mike! I'm not sure why we don't often see Minolta enlarging lenses, but going by the quality of their camera lenses they should be right in there among the best. I have a Minolta 30mm f/2.8 enlarging lens for 110-size film printing, and it did a fine job on the Verichrome Pan film I was using. I've been kind of wondering if it would cover 17x24 half-frame too... Anyway, I'll bet your 50mm Minolta will give you great prints.

Thanks for the nice comments again guys. Really liked this project and all the pictures that came in. The ones that stand out for me are Todd's graveyard angels and the two little girls getting moved on by the big men on horses from Kevin. They look so vulnerable!

I also loved the shutter speed testing, especially the blurred one.

Can we do it again?

I had a discussion with a friend of mine when I first got a digital compact camera about the amount of time the two modes take. I maintain that you can expose a film, process ,scan and print pretty quickly - an hour should do it, maybe less. Messing about with the digi, photoshop and printing can be slow... How about a fastest pic from brain to print using any type of rangefinder?

Rick, LOVED the 4x5 shots 🙂

Peter, the motorcycle chrome shots are cool 🙂

Donald, great train station and "couple with pram" shots.

Mike, the second escarpment shot is what I enjoy as well but you can't help but think the shutter speed shot is cool with the movement 🙂

Todd, I dug your shots in the book and this one as well 🙂

Jan.. heh... I did a lot of walking - but I didn't walk from St Lawrence to Kensington.. 🙂 There were other opportunities I think but my mind was too "busy" on Saturday; I find that I have to be "in the mood" but I think this sort of "forces" you to calm down and look around for those opportunities.. 🙂

Robert; I used Ilford DD-X for the development - it's fast - 68F = 5 min - Neopan 1600 seems to be very much the "standard" for that speed - I rate it directly at 1600 but a lot of folks seem to "like it" at 1250. I leave it be at the speed it suggests and, as a film, it has rarely failed me except when I totally screw up the meter reading 😀

Cheers guys 🙂

Great thread, Dave. Loved the spontaneity of members picking up their cameras on your suggestion...the quality is impressive considering it was so spur-of-the-moment. It had a "Day in the Life of RFF Memebers" quality to it.....
Love to see it repeated.....

Thanks Mike.

Same here 🙂
Like I said.. it forces us out there to shoot - and, seeing as how spring is in the air, it allows us to get back into the street and really "abuse" the cameras.

I remember reading Kyle Cassidy's website a while ago - must have been some 3-4 years back I think - and seeing his PAW page entitled "Put Your Money Where Your Leica Was" ( http://www.asc.upenn.edu/usr/cassidy/pix/paw/index.html ) and thought it was a good idea.

Now most folks have a PAW and it just helps to, every now and then, go out and just shoot; but at the same time take in the surroundings where you're at so that you can see beyond what is in front of you - I'm still practicing that but hope to get it right some day 🙂

We'll do it again.. it's fun.. and all you need is your camera and your feet and maybe a light meter (and film) 🙂

I don't see why not.. it's not like it's a contest or anything 😀

I'm sure others still have stuff that they've dev'd and just didn't get a chance to scan 🙂
