Tom A: I've almost given up . . .

on my submini's. You know for many years I walked around with a Minox III on my belt case. The minoxes were the love of my life back then and I accumulated a few of them. Of course I was using the wrong film / developer combination in order to shoot available light, but these little gems just felt so nice to have around. I can't remember which film nor developer that was used for this photo, but I suspect that it was something like APX400, Neopan 1600, or Tri-X in Rodinal 50:1 . This was before you introduced me to Divided D-76 .

Excuse the technical glitches. I don't have my scanner yet so used my G10 on my light table in Macro Mode.

I believe that this photo was taken around 20 years ago, somewhere I can't remember but looks like on one of our camera outings. And don't you just dislike guess-a-matic focussing.

It looks like a long time ago! I looked young! I think the Nikon was mine too. The M looks like a M6, not my usual ratty black M2's. Only problem with film - those old shots come back and haunt you. If it had been digital it would probably been lost on some unreadable disc.

and YES, Tom, that was your Nikon F. Actually I still have a couple of "F's" around along with some non AI lenses.

You're right about the Digital thing. I have thousands of images archived on DVD and numerous external drives, but the negatives are neatly stacked in binders which I can pull out anytime. It's like going back in time.

I hope it is not the same vest! They only tend to last 3 years. Probably #10-11 of them.

Hi, Tom. What sort of vest is it? And who makes them? If it's a photographer's vest I'd like to get one. The only vests I've been able to find around here are fishermens' vests (pockets too small, and I don't fish), or black leather wannabe western dude vests (no pockets, or small ones suitable perhaps for a Derringer).

I used to buy 1/2 dozen Banana Republic at a time. These days it is Orvis vests. They seem to last a long time (1-1.5 years) and they have good pockets. I also like the velcro thingies as it drives the pickpockers nuts.

That "Panda" Nikon F looked neat! It would have felt just like the Nikon rangefinders that Tom likes so much (as do I).

It might be the exact vest (not sure), maybe Tom can advise ?.

The item I found is on sale. Normaly $98 on sale for $69. Might be worth a look if you are in the market for vest.

I already have multiable vests. They do come in handy.

I must admit I dont know the model of the vest. It has some kind of leather around the edges. Tuulikki orders new ones when she feels the olds ones look too ratty. I am a male and I would wear clothing until it disintegrated, given the choice. Hate "wearing" in vests. pants and sweaters - takes a long time for them to adapt to my body.

Thanks, Bob. I took a look at Orvis' website and the vest - S181PK - and it seems like it might work fine out here in the desert during summer. In winter I can just layer underneath it (looks like Tom is doing that in the original photo). Anyway, it doesn't get that cold down here, although if you get out too early in the morning you can run into 28F, but it'll warm up quickly.

Yes, Tom does not seemed to have aged as much as the rest of us. I have lots more photos (of him) in my archives, and I have finally secured a scanner but I have a hugh learning curve to get it to work

you're RIGHT (as usual). I also take a lot of photos and my Sept '08 images had already been archived to DVD. My system is to clear the laptop to an external drive, then archive the external to DVD. Somehow having negatives stored in binders is just so much easier to locate. Oh, and I'm not sure you remember, but after I took your photo -- 2 girls (dressed in stunning outfits, as I recall) were walking past and we started to take their photos. They stopped and gave us some provocative, sassy poses . . . but I suppose this will be a topic for another thread.

Ladies and gentlemen,

That was an F2...not an F. The shutter button up front and the rounded corners in the lens mount block are dead giveaways...not to mention the rare-in-F "Apollo" style self-timer lever.

I have not met up with TomA for at least 35 years. When we first crossed paths, we were both yewt's. I was looking to make a quick-coupling shoe to fit the Leica ball-and-socket head styling.

Yes. it was an F2 and that prism is for a titanium F2 too boot. The Titan F2 was in for a service at the time.

That is indeed a rare shot! Me. without the vest - but I have at least the camera on me!
Dont know when we will make the next Historica meet - probably not this year. We are going to Europe in late May, but most likely only to Sweden/Finland.
