I've always wanted to compare this to my M8. I can't wait to use that manual shutter cock!

I've also just taken the plunge.
Just paid Nanthor for his Epson R-D1 with Voightlander 35mm f1/7 Ultron.
Can't wait to try it out.
I've also got some LTM glass that I'm want to try. Just need to invest in some LTM to M adapters.

R-D1 vs M8
R-D1 vs M8
Ergonomics: R-D1 wins. Love those analog dials. It's much smaller than I originally thought.
Image Quality: I'm sure the M8 wins but my eyes can't tell.
Build quality: As expected M8 wins.
Menus: I'm use to the M8 and find it easier to navigate.
Shutter: M8's new shutter is a clear winner. Quiet as an M7 if not more. I wish I could remedy this tinny cheap sounding shutter.
Pleasure picture taking: R-D1. I totally love and miss that manual shutter cock!
ISO: sensitivity: M8, but it should be.
All in all I want another one in case one dies. I would miss it probably more than my M8.

I'm sorry but you're wrong about this one. I assume you mean high ISO 'sensitivity'. It's a known fact that M8s have really poor high ISO capability. Anything above 640 is noise city. Many people who have handled both cameras can attest that ISO 640 of the M8 is equivalent to the ISO 1600 of the R-D1.

True, I really didn't do fair comparisons with the M8 in lower light conditions. I do think however the updates in firmware might of remedied this. Obviously I need to play with it more.
The shutter of the R-D1 is high pitched, true.
But I'm with Jim on the ISO. Try some 1600 shots with the R-D1. It outperforms the M8 at high ISO. Some M8 fans simply cannot accept this and I've seen them offer examples of perfectly noise-free ISO 2500 M8 shots, inevitably done in brightly lit conditions. But that's not when noise-free high ISO counts! Side by side photographing something like musicians in a dark club, I got far better results with the R-D1.

You're a brave man.
A guy is happy because he just bought a 'new' camera and is having a ball with it.
Just can't help yourself can you...
Jamriman, have fun mate. It's my favourite camera and I know how you're feeling. Enjoy

I don't own a M8 to compare but the R-D1 is very good at low light. My pick is 800 iso and a lens wide open. Check out my low light gig photos. Maybe someone with an M8 can show examples as well?

Merry X-mas! Thanks guys for turning me on to this camera. It's what the M8 should have been, never mind that .2 nonsense! I'm almost tempted to sell my M8 and buy another one but hey variety is the spice of life.

Congrats on your recent acquisition and merry Xmas to you too. Hope that you can help me with a few questions. I do not own the M8 and have only tried it for a short while - too short to form an opinion.
Based on your experience so far how do the viewfinders compare in brightness and ease of use and how easy is the M8 to focus compared to the Epson? I find the RD1(s) much easier to focus than my Xpan for instance - would love to hear how it compares to the M8.
cheers,
