Canada Toronto area RFF member meeting this summer

Will anyone have a transportation issue going to Port Credit?
No, but maybe coming back.
Just kidding, because I know we will finish off at Starbucks anyway.

Port Credit is a better choice than the island. While there are a couple of places on the island to get beer, it's sometimes difficult to get a seat (based on my extensive experience -- one visit there in the last 40 years.)

How about meeting at Elephant and Castle on King St. next to Simcoe in downtown Toronto? In this heat, indoors would be definite plus. They also have large screen TVs.

Yes, it's the 21st, two weekends from now. Since there hasn't been any consensus, I suggest we just do Port Credit.... say noonish or 1:00 at the harbour? Or we could meet at the Harp for some sustenance/focusing fluid and delay being outside until the light is better.

Gene is away at the cottage at Sauble Beach until next weekend, so I'm sorta volunteering his turf in his stead.

Gene would know better than I... but there was a pub on the same street as the harbour that we met at last time that was, uhm, accommodating. ;)

Is everyone ok with Port Credit? The Harp (that's the pub you mean, Nancy), noonish to 1p.m.? Objections, new ideas...? BJ, hope you can make it.

I too think it's the Harp Nancy is thinking of, though there is another pub on the other side of the street, but I can't remember its name.

I'm cool with the Harp.

Anyone heard from Eduard lately? I know Peter keeps late work hours sometimes, so he may not be able to make it, but I hope so.

John? Mike? Anyone else?

No one seems to be all that enthusiastic about Toronto Island... or the Distillery District...

Port Credit is as good a place as any place to spend some film. At least Gene will have no excuse not to be present.

:p

Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?

Eugene, while I like the Elephant and Castle, and while it is within walking distance of home and work, I would like to try someplace different. Port Credit, Harp and all, sounds good, and I would prefer going there while the weather. (I understand that when winter comes, it snows outside of Toronto.) Maybe we can do the Elephant and Castle again in the future.

Hey there,

Just found this thread. I actually live in the Distillery District. Great photo location, great pubs (would recommend the new Mill Street Brew Pub), super nice coffee shop (Balzac's), awesome galleries for stimulation (no photos, though) and some nice places to buy things to please the spouse for being away all day ;-)
Last but not least, there's Picto. A place made for photographer's...

We've actually done the Distillery District in the past... can't do it every time. People get bored.

Didn't know that. I'm new here.

No problem. :)

It was mentioned earlier in the thread... the T-Dot RFFers seem to cycle where they go... I think the Distillery District was done last July-ish, if memory serves.

For the record, I really wanted to do Toronto Island... but only because it's been ages since I've been there.

Port Credit is beautiful in the summertime, and an excellent way to spend some film. There's the Harbour... the boats coming in and out... water fowl... bicycles... pints of beer... the waitress at The Harp. Feel free to come out!

:D

I think I can make this one.....
Cam (owner of the Harp) also has a newer bar called the Shore, just half a block away from the Harp on the same side. He said he'd put us upstairs in a private room if we liked, but the Shore has an open front, great for people watching while having a few.
It's a little more upscale than the Harp, so more suitable for old-money high-browed artistes like us.....

Mike: Thanks for the tip! The Shore sounds great, especially with an open front. If everyone agrees to that, we'll change the venue. Gene is back from Sauble so is alerted to our plans.

Wow! Just got back from vacation and what a fun surprise! Port Credit? Count me in! :)

And a new pub that I haven't tried yet? Even better!

And I get to see Nancy again?? Better and better!

See you all in PC...

*sigh*

I don't think I can make it Saturday... if the meetup was Sunday, I could make it. But I am not a fan of driving out there myself... and dcsang has a wedding to shoot Saturday. Any chance I just have the dates wrong? Could it be changed to Sunday, I wonder?
