Transition Complete, Nikon to Fuji

The last vestige of my Nikon gear was shipped off to the buyer today. The D610 and 24-70/2.8 made a very heavy package! At the same time I ordered the X-E1 + 18-55 lens at a very low price from B&H. I know the camera is old technology, but it will let me see how I like the EVF only as opposed to my X-Pro1's dual OVF/EVF.

If I like that form, I can see me using both cameras, eventually supplanting them with the X-Pro2 and X-T2. Thanks to the Nikon gear sales I'll have the money.

Through 60 years of photography with all kinds of equipment, the one constant has always been the presence of at least one Nikon. Brave new world.

Well, I did miss one thing. The X-T1 does not support seven automatically bracketed exposures. So when the dynamic range of the scene exceeded the camera's DR I often resorted to exposure blending. Even though the camera was on a tripod, The X-T1's three exposure limit was inconvenient.

For some applications the Nikon system would have advantages. Apparently I'm not interested in those applications.

The Fujinon lenses are better than the Nikon primes and zooms I owned. I certainly don't miss any of the AI, AIS, AFS and G lenses.

All Fujifilm X system for me too. Sold my canon 5dIII and 1d a while back. I don't miss anything, and the fujinon lenses are all sublime. I've actually pretty much stopped buying cameras and lenses simply because I have no desire for anything else.

Gus bracketing is useful for HDR photography, which I think is the point of the OP.

Me too. As of 6 months ago, all my Nikon gear is gone. Replaced by Fuji X gear and some vintage adapted lenses.
I won't knock Nikon (well, I will, yeh, but that's another topic), but the truth is I that like the Fuji mirrorless system enormously.

Nikon camera + lens to B&H . . . . . 8.9 pounds

Fuji camera + lens to me . . . . . . . 2.9 pounds

Willie, I'm going to misdirect my own thread for just a moment. I used to do quite a bit of architectural photography. That was back in the day when we used lenses with movements (or view cameras). These days, do you straighten your verticals with software rather than camera/lens movements?

I use a 36 megapixel camera with a high quality wide lens, like the Nikon 14-24. Then I crop. Software works if you are making shots for reproduction at 3x4 inches.

No thanks .... Fuji cameras are just a passing whim and I can't exist without full frame! 😀

I am putting my Nikon (all film based) gear in mothballs for the most part. Going medium format and 4X5 only. You folks can enjoy your digital stuff but I am going in another direction. (Yes, I have a digital P&S for occasional snapshots.)

Never took to the Fuji digital stuff (through three attempts). Now use a full Nikon kit, both film and digital, alongside my Leica RF kit, both film and digital.

Just like the old days of film only ... Nirvana. 🙂

I sold all my Nikon gear when the 10-24/4 Fujinon became available for the X-T1. I have two X-T1 bodies and the X-Pro 1.

I have no regrets[1]. I prefer the rendering of the six Fujinon X-Series lens I use to compared to any of numerous Nikon F-mount lens I owned. When the lens' optics and focal lengths are designed specifically for APS-C, the reduced sensor area is less significant.

Of course the D800 and Df bodies do have a one stop advantage in analog signal-to-noise ratio (and dynamic range) compared to APS-C bodies.

All the same, until Nikon brings a camera to market I can use as I used my Zeiss Ikon ZM, I 'm dome with them.

[1] I do not shoot action photography for pay and I do not mind carrying an extra small battery. Also, I am not interested in techniques based razor-thin DOF.

I did not need to make a transition from Nikon to Fuji. Using them together works well for me.

Going the exact opposite direction:

I'll keep my D610 and D800 to work with clients, but I switched to Nikon film bodies for my own art.

I've been going back and forth about selling my M240 and get another X-Pro1 with 35mm (rest of the money could be used for travel) as I'm finding ~50mm equiv focal length works best for me.

Once I have some disposable money, I might get another X-Pro1 and do a head-on comparison
