I usually like to travel with mf though i always also carry one or more 35mm with me. On a trip to paris last year i took a lot of frames with a 2.8 flex wich i find is comfortably small for mf. in fact i was able to put the whole brick right in my jacket pocket (which is well padded of course, i went there in the cold season) whenever i needed more mobility, say when using the subway or so.
though is mostly use 35mm it is alway a pleasure to be able to shoot some nice portraits or stills on a larger format. i also own a 500c which also delivers perfect results but however feels like a even bigger brick compared to the flex, which is why i prefer the tlr for long days.

I recently did 10 days in Israel with my Mamiya 6 and 50/75 lenses in a Billingham Large Hadley bag. Images were superlative and everything that I had hoped for. The effort will be well worth it in image quality.

I've travelled through Israel and Eastern Europe with a full RB 67 kit that weighed 13kg plus a heavy tripod. Was an interesting experience, but probably never again!
Currently 10 months into my trip in South America, travelling with a Mamiya 7ii, 43m, 80mm and 150mm and a foldable carbon fiber tripod, much nicer! Probably have spent close to $1.5k on film and processing so far, but has been worth it.

Taking only my Mamiya 7 + 80mm to NYC next month. Well, I'll have my iPhone for snaps, too, but the M7 will be my only "real" camera.

Once upon a time I used to be a gear taliban and I believed in the old Ansel Adams' saying that it is good to alway have "The largest camera one can carry" so I did it several times but I was sizing down from large format.
- Did the weight slow you down?
Yes, but at that time I didn't have that feeling exactly because I was coming from LF.
Were lenses too slow without using a tripod?
I had a tripod and I was using it even when it was not strictly necessary, I think most of the times it was necessary but I didn't worry much about fast lenses, I guess that it is pretty easy to use hand held a f2.8 Rolleiflex or something of that sort.
Did you wish you had brought with you 35mm camera instead or a digital camera?
At the time I didn't but now I simply cannot imagine to go out without a digital camera.
Why don't you just try it, as the answers show this is not going to kill you and after that you will know if it works for you or not. All is so subjective, so what would you get out of knowing that I get much better images with a digital camera and artificial light, it is you who is going to travel...not me. Don't let people's "knowledge" destroy your pleasure of doing experiments, in photography you are not going to harm mice or anything of that sort so just go out and have fun!
