It says 405 grams on the spec sheet. Very close to the CV 21/1.8 Ultron (412g), which is about 0.8 standard M weight.

BTW the Leica Summilux-M 21/1.4 comes at 580 grams, which makes it a tiny bit heavier than a M4.

It's awesome DJ Optical and all these Artisans are coming out with these lenses. I had the 50/1.1 for a while and really liked the photos, but it was too big for using on rangefinders and I sold it.

I'm curious, what would be the situation that this lens shines over a slower and smaller 21mm lens like a CV 21/4? Night street scenes? I guess the same could be said about the 28/1.4, especially when a f2.8 max aperture lens is still fairly small. The larger size does not seem worth it, but I am probably missing the point 🙁.

Where I'm Sun is under horizon for most of the day from November to February. I have film rated @6400 today with me and in the full morning it was f5.6 /250 maximum. This film cost me 15 CAD for 36 exp. With 1.5 lens I could use ISO400 film which is way less expensive. Later in the day f1.5 would be handy, especially with 21 lens to have some DOF.

My current 20mm f3.8 weights about the same as this 21mm f1.5 🙂.

I've been moving away from larger RF lenses, but this does pique my interest, especially for the price. Glad to see more RF lens options.

The sweet spot for me for a regular use wide angle lens is 28mm.
Partly because my rf cameras still have frames in the vf for that.
I’m using the 7A 28 1.4 which is excellent.
I already have 25/21/18mm lenses but obviously use external finders for
those which is ok as I consider them more specialized.

Still I’ll look forward to some tests before I decide whether or not my life be complete without it...

Interestingly this is a lens that an RD1 owner could covet ... and there are a few of us left. I won't be buying it but to be able to have that field of view on the Epson's crop sensor and that speed really broadens that camera's horizons!

This is a very very interesting lens.. My last experience with a 21mm was with a VM 15mm on a M8, and i loved it.
Honestly i was waiting for a fast-ish Voigtlander, but with the release of the 21 f/3.5, this TTartisan that's half the price & 2,5 stops faster makes more sense.
I'll wait a couple of -hopefully positive- reviews to come out and then i'll buy one for sure.

It is an amazing lens..for its wide Field of view and its speed and for its affordable price.

I wonder how good it is optically and at the bigger apertures?

Something half its physical size and at f 2 maximum aperture would be even more enticing.

I don't have any 21mm lens that fits my M9. Mine are non-retrofocus design lenses.
This lens is very GAS inspiring!

On second thought, ny Hologon 16/8 is a 21mm lens on the M8. It is a tiny lens.

Got mine in the post this week. Incredibly impressed with it!

Thought it would be a stop gap until Voigtlander come out with an M mount 21 1.4 (I hope that is on the cards) but looking at the images I think it does what I need.

Expected a lens that would be good for the price point and got a lens that is just good!

Both shots at f1.5, managed to spot Tom Hollander to help test the lens' street shooting credentials, top image is at min focus distance of 0.7m:

21mm (and wider) are best for landscapes and close ups - very close up. Used close up with a narrow DOF you can get some very interesting photos. Unfortunately rangefinders don't allow focusing closeup. In this case something like 0.7m. At that focal length even an aperture of 1.5 gives a big DOF.

f1.5 DOF at 0.7 is less than three inches. And if you really know meters and what DOF is, it is ten cm. At this DOF you could barely catch one face in focus...

But, yea, 20-21 is just awesome for absolutely anything close and wide. Including lousy landscapes.

If this lens is anywhere near close to Leica quality (optics and build) it would be an insane steal.

The shot above is actually from the first test I did, which was to see if I should modify the minimum focus distance as I have a 21 f4 that now goes to 0.4m and a 35 f2.5 that goes to 0.5m.

I found that at f1.5 the DoF is so thin that the shot looks similar enough to the 35mm, (as you can’t see the wide perspective in the bokeh,) just with the focused object looking more stretched - so not ideal for a portrait which would be my main use. So I have decided 0.7m is close enough for my needs at f1.5 and if I want a distorted close up I can use the f4, but ymmv...
