Two Fuji Films Have Been Discontinued

As good a film as it is I liked it better when I could buy it as Legacy Pro for twenty (thirty?) something dollars per 100 ft from Freestyle. The fact that this deal was avaiable indicated it's future was in danger in my book.

I think everybody should stop getting in a huff about this. As far as I know, it's still currently available. If it does get discontinued, then it'll just be another film that's gone.

I used to get all bent out of shape over the loss of film ( and papers ) but it's the way of the film world now. If it ever truly is discontinued, then I suppose I won't be using it anymore. As much as I hate to say it, we have to deal with the film that's available, not the film of yesterday.

I miss lots of film that is no longer made, but I finally realized that it's futile to lament over film that's long gone.

And with that said, I still cry over the loss of HIE, Tech-pan, Agfapan 100 and Agfachrome - hey - I'm only human 😉

Yeah, Keith - the Legacy Pro stuff was a total deal!

Without regret we become a sterile, moralless society who's only interest is in the present and what we can have in the future!

Oh ... hang on! 😀

400X is great stuff it would be sad if it was discontinued although i haven't been using it much either

i think a lot of you are giving the OP an unnecessarily hard time. i don't think we have gotten to a "Source or ban" mentality here yet? just treat it as an interesting discussion topic.

I second this.

Whether the film is going to stay or go, I think that how much we argue in RFF will not change the course of things so let's loosen up a little here shall we?

If you believe Neopan 400 is going to stay, then stock up like you normally would if you like the film. If you believe the film will go, then it is time to stock up MORE now or find another film you will fall in love again.

Or switch to product made by truly film companies, support them by wallet, adopt and learn their films and hope their and your dedication makes it better and longer.

While I completely agree with the folks who say to wait for an official statement from Fuji, there has been quite obvious evidence of late that Fuji is preparing to ditch Neopan 400 and Provia 400x.

A while back (a few months), a few of you may remember that Fuji took a bunch of their film and overhauled the box design/color-scheme. Velvia 50 & 100, Pro 400h, Acros 100, etc.

There were two noticeably absent films that did not receive updated designs. Yep, you guessed it. Provia 400x and Neopan 400 were not updated.

So putting 1 and 1 together, rumors of their demise and lack of repackaging updates... Well, if you're the type to stock up, now would be better than later.

And if you want sources: http://www.fujifilm.com/news/n130322_03.html

Fuji USA sucks. No other way to put it. They randomly discontinue and re-continue things with zero notice and they never can give a straight answer on what they or Mama Fuji is doing.

I contacted Fujifilm local head office and asked in Japanese specifically whether the reason Neopan 400 (I didn't ask about Provia 400X) didn't get updated packaging was because it will be discontinued. The response I got was:

"No, Neopan 400 is not discontinued. Its packaging was not updated because it was deemed not cost effective to do so."

Not a good sign, but not the end either.

I don't think it's an overtly bad sign - they're just simply stating the obvious.

Personally I could care less what the new package design is like. Go back to 1997 designs for all I care. I also wouldn't mind if they went back to the old logo.

Thanks for making the call, Jon.

Flip side of that is the Provia 400X box as it stands currently has a greater "family resemblance" to the new Velvia/etc boxes than it did compared to the old Velvia/etc boxes.

Either way...who knows!
😛

Sorry, it seems you may have forgotten to attach a copy of their notification to your post.
After previous debacles surrounding the "demise" of certain films (which in some instances was subsequently found to be incorrect) perhaps you will appreciate that unsubstantiated posts such as yours above, are unlikely to be well received.

Having kicked this ball off, I will leave it in your capable hands to come up with a more substantive reference with more details about this development for us. Thanks in advance for that.
Cheers,
Brett

I went to college and I think I can translate this, something like:

"Got Proof?"

Can anybody tell me if it hurts when the sky falls on ya???

I once dropped a box of Fuji Acros on my big toe and hardly felt it...

If the OP had put one of these (?) at the end of his thread title he wouldn't be copping so much flak.

Tough audience!

We are sensitive about these things 🙂

Its ok to say Sources report China sales occupy over 50% of Leica's market without providing said source, but its NOT ok to say films are discontinued without solid substantiated evidence 😀

LOL ... you can get away with that sort of stuff if you're an established member with plenty of posts to your name!

The OP however only has twenty one posts to his name and this is the first thread the poor sod has ever started and he gets crucified for stepping outside the square of acceptance! 😛

Probably Japanese "all is well" syndrome. Is it discontinued? No, not yet, but he didn't ask if that will happen any soon (even if it's planned on autumn). Currently it is available. Corporations like to keep their statements until moment when it happens, just like serious people do. Why tell what might happen or might not.
