Vacation: Which camera & lens will/did you take

I was bold enough to take the two days summer vacation (My boss was said to be in the office and also it is rather unusual to really stay away from work during holidays here) and my wife, son and I visited some nice places in Tokyo. Since it were all day-trips only I mostly brought my S2 with 50/2 Nikkor-H-C and some rolls of BW film and one day the Rolleiflex 3.5E and tried the green filter for the first time with BW film. 🙂
 
For Christmas trip to El Salvador I took Rolleiflex and Fujica GS 645. Fujica died first day, so I used Rolleiflex all week long. Most recently to Munich in Germany and a lot of small towns in Ukraine I took Rolleiflex alone. Film used was Kodak 400TX. It doesn't take much space and it works well for me.

Just came back from a vacation in Eastern Washington and Oregon. Took my Hexar AF. Wish I hadn't. I forgot to check it's max shutter speed and so most of my shots are overexposed. My fault. Should have taken something else. Live and learn.
 
For both of my previous overseas trips (Nepal and Myanmar) I took a Mamiya 645 Pro. I went with just the 80/2.8 lens for Nepal and that plus the 45/2.8 for Myanmar (where I used the 80 for a total of 5 shots), along with an Olympus mjuII. I vastly prefer traveling with just one focal length per camera. It just makes things simpler and creates a really nice cohesion and consistency.

I'm also planning a trip to Australia some time very soon, though it'll mostly be to look for work. Which means I'll probably have a fair bit of time to shoot until I land something. For that I'll probably take my Pentax 67 with 105/2.4 (really wish I had the 75, but I haven't got the money or time to get one, sadly) and either my mjuII again or my Nikon FM2n with the 45/2.8p. 6x7 for colour, 35mm for B&W.
 
I still have a tendency to bring too much equipment when I travel so I'm actively working on STOPPING this affliction dead in its tracks. I visited Hawaii for the first time last month and as such I was convinced that I had to bring "the big guns" since I wanted to do a lot of shooting out there. I took my 5DmkII w/ Zeiss 21, 35, 85 and my 50L, along with a tripod. I also had brought along my R2 with 35 / 50mm combo and several rolls of film.

I made a point of using everything I brought at least a couple times, but I could have easily gotten away with so much less.

I'm headed up to Northern California for a couple days, and I brought a much smaller kit to both challenge myself and try something new.

This time I brought the X100 and the R2 with the 35 and 50mm (but I think I'll mostly only use the 50mm on the R2). I also brought several rolls of B&W film with me. Should be fun 🙂

I have been to Cape Cod a number of times. For general streets scenes a 35mm is appropriate. Do you have camera that can handle SAND? Be advised that Cape Cod has numberous beaches and sand dunes which are harmful to cameras especially when the wind blows the sand. (I had a camera's mechanism fill up with sand particles which required a CLA afterwards.) There are many places that have adverse conditions that require the photographer to risk his camera to conditions that will require a CLA afterwards. Personally, I find that a Nikonos V (or other model) is the appropriate instrument. If you want to hike through the sand dunes consider the wind blowing up the sand.
 
For a 12 day Europe trip:

Leica M6 + 35mm/1.4 Lux + 50mm/3.5 Heliar
Bessa T + CV 25mm/4
Olympus EP-2 + 14mm-42mm zoom

I mainly used the CV 25/4and the Lux.
 
I left behind the battery charger for the EP-2, which limited its use during the trip. What a bummer. Maybe not ... I used film cameras more often. The 35/1.4 Lux is incredibly flexible for all types of light and photography. It is a tiny lens with lots of character. It sounds like blasphemy, but I like the 35mm now more than the 50mm focal length. May God forgive me for such a sin.
 
I leave in a week for NY and then Paris for my 55th birthday... I'm taking an M9 w/ 35 summicron and 90 elmarit and an Xpan w/45mm. I'm debating a wider lens for the M9 but I'm already traveling a bit heavy.
 
For a week in Las Vegas in June, I used only an M8 with 28 Summicron and 50 C Sonnar. I too like to keep it simple. Each day I went forth with one of those lenses, leaving the other behind, and mainly saw picture opportunities appropriate to the gear at hand.

Backup? No, but I did have along a MF SLR kit with three lenses. I switched to that the following week in Arizona.

For my 10-day WW2 living history tour in Brittany, I will be carrying a Certo Super Dollina (like Charles E Sumners of the 166th Signal Photo Company). A black-face Anniversary Speed Graphic with 127mm Ektar lens and probably one of my LTM Leicas, probably with a 90mm and a 50mm (Summitar or Summar). I'm also taking my Epson R-D1 I think, just to make sure.
 
For my vacation in England, I took the NEX3 with 16mm. It performed perfectly. I didn't miss longer focal lengths for a minute; most of the places I went were pretty crowded from a perspective point of view..

The Olympus XA-2 that I had as a back-up just in case, didn't come out of the suitcase at all.
 
Trying to figure that out myself right now. I'm heading to LA for a few days - just a casual trip with my wife, wandering around.

I'll probably take an Autocord and an LTM camera (trying to figure out which one I trust the most) with a 21mm f4, 35mm 2.8 and 50mm 1.5 lens. I should probably take either the 35 or 21 but I'm still trying to decide which I want to grab more often. I'll probably take one automatic camera as well for quick shooting - probably Olympus 35SP. Still have a week to sort out what. I figure I'll probably take 2 cameras and maybe 2 lenses out at a time. I expect at least one will go totally unused.

My wife will probably have a Rolleicord and Nikon D70s. She tried to talk me into taking a 4x5 but I'm really slow with it and I'm sure she'd be really bored any time I went to use it. I know I'll regret it if we head out to Joshua Tree though.
