VC 12mm 5.6

I promise I wasn't interested in this fake classified ad.

😀

EDIT: D'oh! Thread was moved.

Congratulations on the new lens, though! I'm jealous.

Hello Trev,

I bought a 12CV a couple of years ago. It's great for situations where I want to see nearly 180 degrees! I shoot mainly Fuji Press 800 color neg, and I see -no- evidence of light falloff at the edges, vignetting, or any other problems. It's very sharp, even in the corners. 😀

It's a great lens, but it can be hard to use beause it is -so- wide. Enjoy!

First pics with 12mm Heliar

First pics with 12mm Heliar

Well I finally managed to get the first roll developed and printed. After some hesitation because they don't offer a CD burning service, I went with my local supermarket. BIG mistake! I opted for the 7*5 service which meant that I was getting quite a lot of cropping, my fault of course, and this combined with it being my first use of the system meant that some pictures were not quite as I imagined them. This combined with a lot of dust on the pictures and variable quality results from the fact that I had tried the lens out in almost all lighting conditions meant my initial reaction was some disappointment. However, now the dust has settled, and I've had a closer look at the pictures I'm impressed with the way they have a 3D feel to them I've never seen before. The images are crisp and DOF endless, and where all has worked together the net results are unmatchable with any other lens. I've included a sample to show what I mean of a picture taken in a motorcycle shop where there was almost no room, and everything crowded together. The Heliar has taken this dingy space and isolated a subject and made it appear - just well different if you know what I mean. Please don't judge on picture quality though, as I own the worlds worst scanner 🙁 but hopefully it will at least give an idea of what this lens does 🙄

My but that's a spacious store! Thanks for posting the image - it looks good! 🙂 I just got the CV 15 and I think I like the FOV of that lens better than the 21. Maybe I should have got a 12? 😉 I'll give the 15 a bash and see how it goes.

Welcome to the forum Andy! 🙂

THanks for posting the image Andy!!

Peter, I feel the same way sometimes 🙂 I use the 21mm as a "28mm" and the 15mm I have is wide, but I always wonder "hmmm.. how would that 12mm look..." 😀

Fun lens - steep learning curve but fun.

I see it as a rottweiler puppy, fun and frolicsome, but dangerous 😎

Nice shot BTW & wish I had that Leica body to shoot with!

Here's a couple more pics & second one demonstrates the kind of flare you might expect, but it's kinda interesting of it's own as the flare seems to have encapsulated a falling leaf in a bubble, or maybe the leaf somehow affected the flare. I'm still scanning with my crappy Lexmark tho', and although I have a second set of prints, sadly these are only a little better than the first set.

Never mind that's a subject for another thread in another place.

Well I have the 15mm and its scale goes down to 0.3M but I dont think the M7 goes any where near to that, in fact it may decouple at 0.7M. The 12mm probably goes down to about the same distance.

Interestng, looking at these pictures, as they don't seem to reflect two problems I am having.

One is just my stupidity. If I let my guard down for a second I get my fingers in the shot with the 12. Sometimes, if pointing below less than horizontal, my feet show too!

The other, I am forever getting horrible vignetting from the shade. Actually, less with the 12 than the 15, but I get shadows that replicate the scalloped shape of the shade.

Any one else?
