Does anyone use this lens and what do you think of it? Also is there any optical advantage to a Skopar style lens othere than size and wieght?

A fantastic lens for the price... sharp w/ high contrast (too much contrast for some). I don't recall colors however as I've ever only used it w/ bw film. In addition, I think the latest ones (M mounts) are the best built versions of these...

There are many, many threads here at RFF devoted to this lens. You should do a search of the Voigtlander Bessa forum. Here's one thread to start you off....

No optical advantage vs. other modern lenses. It is a decent lens, that fits on M cameras, at a wonderful price.

Search? Maybe the sequence 25/3.5 will be useful, but 35 isn't, in RFF's search pane. Or you could search for any Skopar......or use Google.

Hi Joe
Check out these photos in Tom A's flickr site.

You can put the photos on slideshow and read his comments about the lens.
I don't use the lens but from the photos taken by this lens that I have seen in this forum and in flickr, it is one good lens at at very affordable price. Sharp and compact. It should be a good walkabout lens for the day.

Thanks for the info. I've been thinking about a canon 35/2.0 but then saw this lens and at almost half the price I'm thinking of holding off on the canon.

Another argument in favor of the Skopar is that it uses 39mm filters.
Many of the Canon lenses use 40mm filters which are very hard to find.

In addition to the Skopar classic, there's the P I (for Pancake) (which is LTM), and the P II (which is M mount). They are all optically identical.

Joey... The lens you questioned is just an ordinary modern 35mm lens, nothing more or less. It's OK for decent snapshots but don't expect much, if any, visual character. Musically it's like comparing a good kazoo and a cheap harmonica. Go with the Canon if you have the money.
BTW: I have both, a good kazoo and a cheap harmonica.

Can anyone tell me if the LH-4 hood reverses for storage on this lens?

I don't know but at $70 local price I will never know. Instead I use this $8 hood It doesn't reverse for storage but doesn't take up much space anyway. Though I can't fit it in the pocket of my skinny jeans.

I love this lens. I use it with my Zeiss Ikon and I have the LH-4 hood with it as well. I got the hood half the price and it's good to have for protection.

I have 2, a silver and a black one. I use the LH-2 hood which you can still brand new in Tokyo. The lens is great, but, as is well-known, it is quite contrasty.
