Has anyone stumbled upon a way to use the "eye sensor" view mode, but to have the rear LCD turn off when in shooting mode (rather than showing the info/live view/custom screens) and turn back on for playback and menus? I like the "eye sensor" mode, but it seems to waste a lot of battery powering the LCD when I'm walking around with the camera turned on but not actually taking a photo.

Put another way, I'd like to have the camera behave as if it is viewfinder only mode, but show menus and playback on the lcd screen instead of the viewfinder, and turn off the viewfinder diaplay when its not held up to my eye.

I've been looking through the manual and menus, but haven't found a way to do this yet.

Keep hitting the "View mode" button.

There are 3 cycles (for both shooting and reviewing), Both can be set (they remember what you used last).
- LCD back only
- Eye mode (with auto switch between LCD and OVF/EVF)
- OVF/EVF only.

So, when you're shooting you can pick any of the above settings.
When reviewing photos (or in menus) you can pick any of the above as well.

I run my camera in:
3rd for shooting
1st for reviewing.

I think it works great that way. But it's awesome fuji lets you choose!

Works exactly like the previous poster said in my Nikon 1 V1 and I think it should be mandatory in EVIL cameras. Keeps you from chimping!

Thanks for your response! I've played with all these modes and display settings, but I'm trying to get something slightly different. For example, if I'm shooting in "viewfinder only" and take the camera away from my eye and hit the "q" button to change a setting, I'd like the menu to show up on the back LCD, not the viewfinder. The "eye sensor" mode accomplishes this, but then there is always stuff being displayed on the rear LCD when I don't have the camera to my eye.

I guess what I'm trying to figure out is if there is a way to have the back LCD on only for viewing menus and playback mode. Once I half-press the shutter to get into shooting mode, I'd like the LCD to go blank whether the camera is to my eye or not. For now I'm just running in "viewfinder only."

If you are in VF only AND in OVF it will work as you are requesting. If you are in EVF everything will come up on the EVF.

ETA- I find this slightly irritating. I am a VF only guy and for the most part use the OVF, with some EVF mixed in, and rarely use the LCD. So I find it normal and preferable that when I have been shooting with the OVF, take my eye away and hit menu, the menu comes up on the rear LCD, perfect. But, if I happened to be in EVF last, and I hit menu, nothing comes up and I have to hit view mode, the OVF lever, or put the camera to my eye... frustrating.

For macro I would prefer it to always come up in the VF and force EVF in the VF. But, not necessarily for other items. I wish that if you selected the viewfinder only via the view mode button, the eye sensor remained active. Then it would always make the correct choice as to where to display menu options for both OVF and EVF use. Yes, I know that there would be some battery loss with the eye sensor always active, but us VF only shooters are already saving a good bit of battery.
