These things come in threes. I am awaiting Fuji's response before not buying either. 😉

I'm hoping fours, because I'm patiently awaiting a Sigma Foveon full-frame camera. Or an interchangeable lens camera with a Foveon sensor. Really, any Sigma/Foveon news.

Make that five : The Ricoh/Pentax 'LX like FF hybrid' if it veers toward the controls and M friendly micro lenses of the GXR-M would be my first choice.

There has also been more infighting in the Sony threads ... which probably means Nikon fans have lower expectations! 😀

... or nikon had the cooler advert, so they'll overlook the shortcomings

I'm quite relieved that Nikon haven't dragged this out for too long ... the protracted release of info for the Fuji X100 was a joke by comparison!

So, if I have understood correctly, Nikon are about to release news of the release of camera of uncertain type and the internet is mad with rumour - oh dear!

The Nikon DF just appears to be yet another camera in the recent retro craze such as the Olympus PEN, EM-5, and Fujifilm X-Pro1. These retro cameras are interesting. I even bought one of them. But the Sony A7/A7r gives us something new. A mirror less full frame body with autofocus and a terrific EVF.
In the end, the Nikon DF may sell better just because so many of already have Nikon glass.
But I am already looking forward to using a Sony A7r with Canon EF lenses mounted on the metabones adapter.

If you're going to use a metabones adapter, wouldn't it be better to use a metalens and a metacamera? Anything less is so last year…

😎

I think the Nikon product is deceptive in the way it does not go far enough in cutting all the buttons that vintage cameras don't have. I a sense it is too mildly retro, this is where I'm mostly disapointed.

Hopefully this turns out to be an SLR in the vein of a Leica M9, rather than the new M. But I'm definitely feeling the same way as you.

Nikon definitely got the hype going, releasing the videos and all. Within two weeks or so from hearing the first rumor, the camera was anounced. Great! Except it turned out to be nothing what I hoped it would be. Too bad.

Hmmm, a Nikon FF camera made for photography designed for handling by photographers and accepting all their great lenses or a Sony FF Playstation without thoughts to handling and accepting all kind of lenses but none securing performance? Though choice 🙂

The A7r handles just fine, I find the dial layout both logical and highly customizable. The ultimate utility camera, but no less of a camera because of that.

BTW I find it incredibly ignorant when people say Sony cameras are not designed by photographers. Sony has a large team of contracted pros providing feedback via prototype bodies for each new camera they produce. A camera like the A7r would likely go through multiple iterations that address specific problems raised during the test process, which would involve handing, performance and general usability. If you want sureproof optics you might as well as buy into FE, both primes are as good as lenses of that focal length goes.

Trial and error. That's how all camera makers do things, not just Canon and Nikon.

The X-Pro1 has something unique too.
