Weekend Photography Plans: What are you up to?

Last weekend, I was at a football game that required the Panasonic S5 + 24-105 for general coverage, and the Panasonic G9 + 35-100mm f2.8 for coverage across the field. The M9 with Elmarit 28 asph was also with me. I regretted not packing the Distagon 35 because we ended up at a dark bistro after the game, and the Distagon would have been perfect.

This weekend will be a little different, a dinner/function that I assume will be in low light, so I'll have to use lenses with wider aperture. Most likely, I'll use the Panasonic S5 with 50mm f1.8, Panasonic G9 with Olympus 25 and 45mm f1.2 primes, and the M9 with Distagon 35. Much of this will be video, so the IBIS in the Panasonics will be most useful.

The Distagon 35 is an endgame lens. I've said this many times before, but the Distagon now lives on my M9, and it has killed the urge for almost every other M mount lens.
 
My wife and I are leaving today for Hakodate City in Hokkaido. We'll spend six days in the area. I'll take pictures, she'll eat seafood and we'll both be sightseeing. I'll also be enjoying Sapporo Lager Beer, the local type that can only be bought in Hokkaido! It's really good 🙂

Developing some fomapan in 120. Taking some pictures of the Rolleicord 1a and the practical and lenses to sell, got to cull the herd. Not sure if I will sell here, on eBay or just trade in for something.

I have some French friends involved with WW II US Army re-enactments. We are more popular now that we are gone. ;o)
 
It is Sunday! I have not taken any photos so far during the weekend. I checked my small camera backpack, and I removed from it the 35mm Lux and the 5cm 1.5 Sonnar, in preparation for some photography in the coming days. I placed the 75mm Lux on the M10, and I added a 35/2 Zeiss Biogon ZM to the bag.

How has been your weekend going so far?
 
I shot a reception for our local Arts organization yesterday evening. Took along a Canon EOS-M with EF 22mm lens. I also took along an Instax printer which allows me to make Instax prints a few minutes after I take the digital pics. Big hit with everyone, to see hard copies of the pics a few minutes after I took them.

Slow here, listening to the grass grow and waiting for a couple to come cart away my 2CV. They will reconnoiter the street, uphill and curved, and figure how to get the car onto a trailer for its departure tomorrow. It's going to a place of greater use.
 
My dad passed away on June 2nd, this year...He was at home (hospice) and I was living with him as his primary care provider.
I was there and witnessed his passing (it wasn't pretty but it was quick)...
Since that day I haven't had the drive/want to photograph...granted lately I've begun to take a camera wherever I go and I've seen shots worth taking but haven't...
I have taken pictures documenting the progress of clearing out his house and cleaning up the yard (mostly with my phone) but beyond that nothing really to speak of...
I know this will pass and I'll get back in to it but for now I haven't made any plans...
While staying with him during his last two months I had my Mamiya C220 and shot two rolls of Acros 100 of him relaxing or reading in the backyard...I should develop those rolls...maybe that might help kick start me...
 
Coming up: the annual Moriarty, NM Pinto Bean Festival and parade!!! Pinto beans are still a major crop here in the valley where I live, and we don't miss a chance to celebrate. There is a festival with local crafts, food, and the crowning of the yearly Pinto Bean Queen, a photo op not to be missed. The parade has the usual fire trucks, horseback riders, 4-H club, etc., but given that this is an election year (ugh!) there will be a lot of local politicians in flashy convertibles throwing out candy to the spectators. They do this in lieu of offering any constructive ideas or policies, but it seems to work; they keep getting re-elected. To be honest, throw me some Skittles and you've got my vote!
 
The weekend just behind us I spent camping and hiking around Mount Rainier in WA. Took the Pentax K-1 II, K-3 III Monochrome, and two lenses, the 31 Ltd. and 43 Ltd. I figured I could switch these lenses and have focal lengths between 31mm on the FF to 65mm on the APS-C, but it turns out I left both lenses on those respective bodies. Switching between 31mm and 65mm was quite useful. I shot the Monochrome rather more than the K-1, as I've been very interested in shooting B&W landscapes with that camera. I like the results I came back with quite a bit. I had an old yellow filter which I used on the 43mm a little, but not all of the time (mostly due to its having some coating issues due to age). I didn't really notice any decline in IQ with it, so I could have just left it on.

It takes time to heal from a loss like this. Go easy on yourself and take comfort that you did much in your dad's final days to make those days better. Developing the film is probably a good idea. It may take you to a place of calm. It will get better.

I'm so sorry, man. Even when you know it's coming, the aftermath can still be a shock. Do whatever you need to move through as you find peace, there's no time limit. Thinking of you.
 
Every year, I make a dedicated photo walk on AFL Grand Final day, roaming the city and capturing whatever I see. As I am not a fan of football, I do everything which is not football related, including visiting art galleries, eating at nice cafes, walking through parks, and looking at camera shops. It is the one day of the year which is sacrosanct to me, where nothing else can interfere.

Last year, I visited ACMI, the Australian Centre for the Moving Image, which houses many things including a huge gallery of exhibits from Australian television and film. This year, I might visit the Ian Potter Centre for Australian Art.

Sam, sorry for your loss. It takes time and I wish you well through this. Your memories of the time with him settle and become a part of you. There is no pressure to photograph - you will know when you want to make pictures again.
