Die Frau ohne Schatten by R Strauss. It sounds like Wagner where those repetitive parts have been replaced by interesting music. This excellent 1988 recording by EMI has Sawallisch conducting, and Cheryl Studer in the title role. Some of the vocal lines are borderline impossible.

Two days ago I discovered Tori Amos for me. When taking street shots it is very relaxing to listen to her versions of "Smells like teens spirit" (original from Nirvana) and "Losing my religion" (from R.E.M.).
