What photography gear—cameras or lenses—do you most regret selling?

For me, I bought a complete black Contax G2 system, the one that came in the aluminum iHalliburton case, for a reasonable price. And I sold it—at a less than reasonable price—to purchase a Canon DSLR. :bang:

What a gem of a camera, and the lenses were superb.

How about you?

Unfortunately, I made the same error as you in selling my G2 and associated lenses. Nowadays I hover the classifieds for a possible replacement.....

My original OM-1. First serious camera. It has been replaced, but there isn't the silly, sentimental attachment as the first camera.

My 1955 Hasselblad 1000F with 60 Distagon, 80mm Ektar, 135mm Ektar, and a 180mm Piesker.

50mm summilux pre-ash black paint (millennium edition).

Buttery smooth, and gorgeous drawing, especially slightly closed (say at f4). Replaced it with the ASPH version, which at 1.4 is absolutely stunning, but for everything else I wish I had the pre-asph. Plus the black paint one was nice to look at.

My Fujifilm F200 EXR. compact camera. A superb, any conditions camera (especially low light). Super CCD, 5x optical zoom, 12 mpx, dual IS and a great flash.

Fuji took 5 steps backwards when they ditched that sensor. Sold it with a handful of accessories for 130 GBP, a good price then (around 240 GBP new). It's still selling for over 100. Really miss it...:bang:

Sold in 2001 when I changed jobs and needed to buy a car.

Carl Zeiss Jena Sonnar 180mm f2.8, one of the best if not the best portrait lens ever made in my book.

I was stupid to sell it just because the Soviet Kiev camera was unreliable and gave me too many hassles. I should have just bought a Pentacon body for only to use this lens.

Yeah, that's got to hurt. I wish I had one too but at least you had the pleasure of owning one once. Why did you sell it? A 'going digital' phase?

actually my TR-808 back in 2000 - not only would I want one now but the price also jumped to 400% now.

but for photography it was the summicron-c 40mm so I bought one again 😀

great lens indeed - but quite big.
the Six isn't much better than the Kievs in terms of operation.

I don't use my 50 collapsible cron enough and could live without it. Yet every time I think of parting ways with it, I read a thread like this and resolve to hang on to it. It's one of those seemingly very few left in the world that has not a single scratch, swirl or cleaning mark anywhere on it. I know how easily marked and ruined the glass is on these and Leica sure as hell aren't making any more of 'em. It's absolutely mint and takes amazing pictures. Looks the bees knees on my M2, when the 'Ron 2.8 is not mounted. And yet still I think of letting it go.

I should shoot more 50mm this year lest I end up posting in this thread again with a sad story of remorse.

My M2. It was my first rangefinder, and I cut my teeth with it. It developed a problem which would have needed $$ servicing, so I sold it. I now wish I'd gotten the servicing done, even if it made no financial sense. It was a great camera and felt like "mine".

I also sold a v4 Elmarit-m 28mm, which had a really magical way of rendering complex high contrast scenes. There's nothing else like it.

The Leica M6TTL. I bought it brand new in 2008. Used it for 2 years, exclusively with a 90mm Summicron, and then sold it because eventually I got tired of lugging around a heavy kit all over the place. But every time I flip through my photo albums, shots from the M6TTL and that Cron 90 always stood out. I did try to sell off that Cron as well, but I'm glad it wasn't able to find a buyer.
