What does, "I always have a camera with me" mean?

if i am conscious, even when on a hospital gurney ... 🙂

That's exactly where the photo below was taken. I was on the verge of death from dehydration and double food poisoning that entered my blood stream. While struggling to maintain consciousness, my girlfriend (who I can thank for literally saving my life by driving me to the hospital) snapped this photo as I was being given an IV.

I will have a compact P&S (sometimes film but most of the time my LX3) in a small belt pouch around my waist at most times..that is as long as Im wearing a belt.

At least my tiny Pana FX30. Or one of my film compacts. That's my fashion of "always have a camera with me".

Yea as you age the 'always' kinda slips...
Have a canon s95 now, and usually have the 'always' back to be 'always'.
Ya gotta leave the film camers home sometimes, I mean crimmony it gets expensive.

Used to. Now, probably only 97-99% of the time when I'm out of the house. Usually round the neck, or in a very small Billingham; used to be in a pocket or satchel.

Cheers,

R.

For me it means that when I leave the house (mostly driving) I will have a camera loaded with film...I do have an Olympus XA-1 in my Camelbak when I'm riding...
The camera in my phone doesn't count...
If I'm out working in the backyard I don't have one hanging off my shoulder...if I'm going to the Post Office (literally around the corner & down the street) I'll have one...
People will comment if they don't see a camera on me...

I carry my M2 all the time, literally everywhere. On weekend I carry my bag with the Leica III and R7

Yep, same here. My bag with the M3 and the R4 are always with me except when my bride objects...😱 no idea why that is...When that happens, I have been carrying the XA2, now being replaced with a Minolta Freedom P&S.😛

Of course, this is when I am OUT of the house, not IN.

For those who say on RFF frequently that you always have a camera with; what does this mean? Do you always have a camera around your neck? or in a bag? Everywhere? a grocery run? to work? The only way I can say this is because I have my iPhone with me always. I do usually have a bag with me but not always. Who does this and how?

🙂

My camera goes with me to work (teaching job), to the grocery store, into town on a night out, when walking the dog, when visiting family or friends, and sleeps upstairs on the bedstand.

I've taken many nice shots of unexpected situations because of always carrying a camera.

It's a habit I developed when I passed a burning truck on the highway, had a perfect shot (firemen just starting to use extinguishers on a blazing fire) and did not have a camera with me... :bang: My wife told me for years and sometimes still does 😀

Me too and why not. I keep something in my "Purse". Usually a Konica auto S3 or an M8 with CLE40.

Auto S3 w/HP5. Waiting to be wheeled in for my titanium Orbital floor implant. No more free trips through airport metal detectors 😛

Agreed, the camera in a phone does NOT count. That would be cheating and does not present the proper image of a photographer IMO... he/she should be seen with a dedicated camera on the shoulder, neck, wrist, etc.😛 It is the little sacrifices in life that make up our character.😉

I usually have a "real" camera. Essentially, I always leave the house w/ one. What I've learned is that I don't like lugging big, heavy cameras, especially daily, so my daily shooters are small, folding cameras.

Nothing much ever happens, of course, until I don't bring it w/ me. Then, all manner of great photo opportunities mysteriously appear.

I really want one of those ultra thin digital P&S cameras that you can slip into a shirt pocket and forget it's there. Not for serious photography, but for snaps of this and that.

If you don't mind looking like a tourist, and I don't, it's very convenient to carry a camera slung from your neck. I do this regularly where I live. It's so regular that if I don't take the camera with me, people remark on it. So yes, I carry a camera with me wherever I go.

With best regards,

Pfreddee(Stephen)
