What does, "I always have a camera with me" mean?

If you don't mind looking like a tourist, and I don't, it's very convenient to carry a camera slung from your neck. I do this regularly where I live. It's so regular that if I don't take the camera with me, people remark on it. So yes, I carry a camera with me wherever I go.

With best regards,

Pfreddee(Stephen)

Stephen, now we're talking about the proper presentation and readiness for opportunity! Love it when people do this...🙂

I was on a business trip today, by train, and made a couple of pictures of people in stations (not yet developed). Traveling is far less boring if you bring a camera! 🙂

I also usually carry a camera to work (in a bag, on my bike), although I rarely photograph there or on the way to work. But sometimes I do. (Employees always get prints.)

Sometimes I even carry a camera to the local supermarket (round my neck). I just feel a little naked leaving the house without it.

Two notably exceptions to my always policy are:
- business meetings (cameras not appropriate; unfortunately, lots of interesting characters -- oh, and I would have loved to photograph that beautiful receptionist today...)
- first dates with girls (don't want to scare them)

Well, for me it means that I never leave the house without a camera. Even if I am going to the corner store. By camera I mean a real camera, not a phone with a camera. I sling my Leica around my neck by habit now. My wife laughs at me and sometimes tells me off, as she thinks that sometimes it is inappropriate.

For those who say on RFF frequently that you always have a camera with; what does this mean? Do you always have a camera around your neck? or in a bag? Everywhere? a grocery run? to work? The only way I can say this is because I have my iPhone with me always. I do usually have a bag with me but not always. Who does this and how?

🙂

In my case it means: "I can shoot B&W film even if I have not planned to do it, because I have an XA in my pants pocket loaded with Tri-X, set at f/11 and prefocused at 8 feet, so I just open it and shoot in case I see any scene."

Cheers,

Juan

... I once saw something I'd have loved to photograph and couldn't since I didn't bring one with me...

I once saw something I'd have loved to photograph and couldn't since I didn't bring a camera with me. So I thought, oh well, I wasn't meant to photograph this. Instead, I concentrated on seeing it fully.

I am a photographer whether or not I carry a camera with me at any particular time.

i don't take a camera when i put out the trash.

I did & do each time I take out the trash😀 For me taking out the trash is loading it into the trunk of my car & driving about 5 miles to the dump site. Today it was the Bessa R with 35/2.5 skopar loaded with Kodak 400UC. Finishing a roll I shot this past weekend at the beach!

I can't say always. I can say most of the time, that does always mean on my person, but close by in the truck or where I'm staying. I try to make a habit at work of having a slr or rangefinder in the truck, and a XA in my pants pocket or the pocket of my cruiser's vest.

If I carry a bag (work or otherwise), I will usually have a digital and a film camera handy.

Otherwise it's my mobile (Galaxy S2 aint too shabby), and in my jacket pocket my GR1 and a spare roll of whatever avail film at thetime.

I cant remember the last time I went outside - without a camera. Even walking down 2 flights of stairs to pick up the mail - I usually grab a M, just in case.
I did spend almost a month in a "sterile" room in the hospital (Stem cell transplant and chemo). Brought a M2 with the 35 and a Bessa with the 21. Have a lot of pictures of my feet under covers, above covers, multi pumps pushing stuff in me and of the doc's and nurses.
In spite of the old American Express ad - I am more likely to walk out without an Amex card than a camera.

There is always one with me in a bag - my man purse or (previously) diaper bag. I'd rather be out and not find anything to shoot than have something spectacular happen & I have no means to record it.
Very rarely, I'll leave home without....but it's like not wearing my watch or my wedding ring - something's missing.

Haulin a camera

Haulin a camera

Down here it's too hot to leave a camera in the truck or van so one goes with me when I'm out. It may be in a camera bag, I might use my messenger bag, it might have a never-ready case, a neck strap, or I may simply hand carry it, but yes I do try to take a camera everywhere. Good shots are always "out there". My challenge is to recognize one as I pass and record the event. Can't happen without a camera, won't happen if I'm not looking for it . Red🙂

Most days I am walking out the door to work with FOUR cameras. My iPhone, my little Leica C-Lux 2 which is great for movies and medium tele shots, but getting almost no use since the X100 which is next to it in my shoulder bag, and in my hand is an M, the last fortnight an M5 with ZM 21 and finder. At weekends I sometimes leave the house without an M but very often regret that, and forget that there's still the iPhone, although that's just not the same.

I commute into NYC every day and always try to have a camera with me in the messenger bag. Generally carry my CL with a 35mm or M3 with 50mm. The CL is a little easier for working quickly because of the built-in meter.

I also have an iPhone, but have a hard time getting good shots with it. It's much to easy to hold it askew and get some distortion in the shot.

Always.

Maybe a few feet away, or maybe on one of my custom-guaranteed-no-drop-recycled-seat-belt-wrist-straps: Canonet 17 GIII. Or Oly RC. Some days if I'm feeling ambitious, it's the Pentax digi with the Taku 50/1.4. Or the Bessa R with the 1.9/85 Serenar. Or the GSN - usually with a pocket tripod. Anybody looking to unload a LTM 35/2.8 or faster for cheap?

Always.

I carry a camera with me always except on errands or when I'm on my bike. When I was working, I always carried my camera to work. I just want to have it ready when the creative urge shows up.

I carry an M nearly every day- sometimes I'll opt for the smaller T3 or a GR. I don;t often carry it when I walk the dog as he has little patience for my needing a shot when he needs a sh1t and vice-versa.

I don't shoot every day, but have many images I quite like that were made on my daily rounds.
