what happened to fuji reala superia prices?

for the last year i've been buying reala superia 100 in 35mm for less than 3$ per roll for 36 exposures. i'm running out of the film and looked around today and prices are in 4.50+? what happened?

anyone still has a good source for under 3 bucks?
 
i called both adorama and b&h. adorama had no comment and told me to complain to fuji. b&h said they're no longer able to get their gray import of superia, which was 2.99$ so from now on they only have the 4.95$ version.

this absolutely sucks, this might drive me to digital.
 
I just ordered 20 rolls of Reala from Freestylephoto.biz at $3.99 a roll. My last order of 200 rolls came from B&H at 2.99 a roll (some years ago). But looks like $3.99 is the new price.

I would go 100% digital too, except I know for a fact that my Konica cameras with Hexanon glass and Reala film provides me with a sharper image, much more vibrant/saturated/realistic colors, and a much better sense of dynamic range (we called it Latitude in the film days) and depth.

So...I will pay the extra dollar, and be happy it's still available.

This is my first order via Freestyle, if all is well, I will be ordering more Reala from them.

Also...over at Photo.net, the same question came back with: B&H and Adorama demand a lower price from the distributor, and are often 'Out Of Stock' when others (who sell it for more) wil have it...

It's a case for the distributors looking to get the most they can, for every roll.

So true about digital. It's too bad because that digital color/latitude will become the standard. The bright side is people will always go WOW when they see a film made image, whether B&W or color. I have had nothing but excellent service from Freestyle.
 
Doesn't anybody consider that it might have something to do with the sinking value of the dollar relative to other currencies? The national deficit? The bail-out?

On the other hand, factor in for inflation and look at film prices twenty, thirty, forty years ago. Compared to those historical prices film today is not only a lot better but dirt cheap as well!
 
It is unfortunate but I am sure that demand is dropping. Discounters like B&H are last in the queue with Fujifilm. It is worth supporting Freestyle anyway.

I've long been paying about double that.

€5.50 here is typical, that's about $7.50.
 
I was in a (fairly big chain) camera shop in London a couple of weeks ago and a roll of Provia 400X in 35mm was £10.49, just had a look on their website and Sensia 400 is £13.99, that's nearly 25 dollars! Without processing! The world's gone crazy...
 
Reala is called Reala Ace in Japan and it is about 3300 yen or about 33 dollars for 5 rolls
6.60 per roll here. Good stuff but I just got like 200 rolls of Kodak Supra 400 for free, and it will have to do.
 
As Al said, plus the increase in the price of silver & the price of petroleum (base stock & fuel to ship it here) all add up to more expensive film. I just suck it up and keep buying because it's the best color C41 film on the market.

Y'know, just a thought.
If you're using Konica Hexanon lenses, it could be that the film doesn't matter. I use el-cheapo Walgreen film and it still comes out more vibrant/saturated/realistic colors ;)

Which Hexanon glasses do you have? just curious.
 
I bought 100 rolls of Reala 100 24 exp at $1/roll recently. I posted a thread about it here.
 
In case you haven't noticed guys - dollar went down and is very cheap lately. That's why prices increased. But it's not that bad. The cheapest Reala in Poland is ca. $4,50 a roll and it's considered cheap. I remember some years ago it was ca. $7.65... Still you have better prices for many things than we in Europe - even for things produced in Europe :) So don't worry :)

The newer "el cheapo" Walgreen film is indeed Fuji.

However, around here anyway, the real Fuji-branded films are usually cheaper than the house-branded Walgreens/Fuji at Target' and (gag) Wally World.
