I examined both the Sony a7r and the Nikon df. Neither has a split focusing screen for manual focusing. So No deal.
So what did you buy instead?

I bid on a "box of old cameras including Zeiss" at a local auction house and won it for £23. When collected it there were 4 items. A Eumig 8mm movie camera in a nice leather case, a.Certo Super Dollina, a Zeiss Contaflex Prima and a 1961 Zeiss Contax llla with Carl Zeiss f2 Sonnar.
All of them appeared to be jammed or faulty until I discovered how they operated and miraculously all are working. I'm running films through the Contaflex and the Certo while the Contax has gone off to be serviced - slow speeds not working and the focussing mechanism was noisy.
There was an exposed film in both the Certo and the Contaflex but no images could be coaxed out of them by development.

Most recently picked up 2 Canon lenses. An FD 35/2 chrome nose concave and an FDn 85/1.8. I'm loving the 35/2. Sharp and soft at the same time wide open. Nice 3D rendering. Pleasing OOF. Atmospheric. Subdued contrast. Reminiscent of the vintage medium format look.

It just doesn't stop...
I got 2 packs of Polaroid 665 film, a big bag filled with an assortment of Kodak and Rite Aid films all expired, a Fuji X-E2 and 18mmF2, an SX-70 plus a few packs of PX 70 film for it, a second Lomo LC-A, a selection of Agfa slide film to try,a few boxes of Instax film for the Mini 90 I got previously, a bunch of 52mm filters for the X-E2's lens (I have a ton of 52mm filters but wanted more), a couple of different X Mount <- M Mount adapters for my VC/Leica glass to the X-E2, and a few things I'm sure I missed.
Again, I am my own Santa. The X-E2 was my big gift for myself this year. My first really big foray into digital again. Not leaving film behind, just adding a powerful tool into the mix.
At Thanksgiving with the famly over 4 days I shot 18 rolls of film during our days and over 1000 digital images. Having both was nice. (Used the rented X100s) so I want to be able to do same for Xmas etc. Plus, more cameras = fun.

For Christmas, my wife bought me a Leica IIIc with a Nikkor P-C 85/2, an Elmar 50/3.5, and a Zeiss Biogon 35/2,8 and a skoodle of accessories (finders, hoods, filters, etc.).
I think that she loves me.

I finally found a nicely-priced & good Pentacon preset zebra 135/2.8 aka the Bokeh Monster. Being a much hyped lens, prices have been creeping up for years. This one will need a minor glass cleanup, but is otherwise perfect.

360mm F5.5 Schneider Tele-Arton on Plaubel Makiflex.
This just arrived today, and I'm delighted. A barrel-mounted Schneider 360mm F/5.5 Tele-Arton, that I have had my eye on, for over a year. The price dropped, and I grabbed it. Fits a lensboard I made previously, for my Schneider 360mm F5.5 Tele-Xenar, so that is good. I can simply interchange the lenses on the custom lensboard for now. Casts a gorgeous image on the Makiflex 9x9cm Groundglass.
Man this thing is -big-, but not really that heavy. Takes humungeous 95mm filters. I happen to have one, and a 95mm rubber lens hood

Maxwell screen. I've spent too much time thinking about it. Best to just give it a shot so I can focus on shooting instead.

Just received a Canon Pro 100 printer to replace my old HP 7960 that would not die and made great B&W prints, until HP stopped making the photo grey ink for it HP-59. I must have had that printer for about 8-10 years.
