What have you just BOUGHT?

Have gone a bit of a Pentax binge. Got an MX ($40) and an ME ($13) in the mail. Should be here early next week. It seems I'm going back home. I started with a Pentax ME Super in high school before moving to Nikon in PJ school. There's just something about those small bodies and light weight that appeals to me.

A second Rondinax 35U film processing tank.

These things are great—simple, countertop film development without any need for darkroom or changing bag. For the volume of film I shoot, two of them for 35mm and one for 120 film will complete my ultra-minimal home film processing setup.

Voigtlander Perkeo IIIe

It was one of a lot of four old cameras I purchased on a local auction site. This photo is taken after I cleaned the camera the lens, which were very grimy. I'll be putting a film through it soon.

Here are three (new to me) lenses, mounted and ready to go.

On the camera is a 210mm Schneider Componon.
In front is a 135mm Schneider Componon, mounted on a Durst recessed cone.
It easily achieves infinity focus when set up this way. But not so quick to change the f/stop- but it works! And to the left, a 240mm Schneider Symmar. I really do think these chrome (60-70's vintage) lenses are the perfect match for these cameras.

I have been taking these lenses completely apart, to clean the front and back of the cell groups. All of them have become much more useful to me, without the "milky-white" outgassing deposits 😱

And my Automatic Makiflex #2 is on it's way to Ken Ruth (Photography on Bald Mountain) for CLA.
I have more cut film and rolls I need to develop, as I have time.

Pentax ME Super.

I wanted to shoot a Pentax 50/1.4 and figured the LX, as the flagship camera body, would be the best platform for it. But the first LX i bought had the Sticky Mirror problem. The second LX had a misaligned mirror(?) that made it backfocus significantly. I was about to give up on the entire idea, but remembered the ME Super has the same huge viewfinder as the LX. I always thought they were poorly designed — aesthetically and functionally, with the plastic plate with pushbutton shutter speed adjustment.... But when i received the Super, i was pleasantly surprised. Not so hideous. And the buttons work more effectively than i imagined. Plus the body is tiny. Its solid. The wind mechanism is delicious. The shutter/mirror operation is sweetly soft. In a good way. And this cheap body actually works.

Best part of the ME super (and the LX) is the magnificent viewfinder. It really is the closest thing to just being a 'window' that i have experienced, and ive had a LOT of cameras.

Found a Fuji 100/3.5 AE for use on my Gl690 and GM670. It is coming from Japan so the surprise might be shipping delays and customs. The battery check works but the SCC function does not. I'll see if I can get the AE function repaired, if not I transplant the EBC glass into a manual lens body for the modern coating; this way I'll have a 100/3.5 that is single coated and another multicoated (EBC).

Congrats, the 28/1.4 AF-D is a great lens. Kind of big & heavy (at least compared to the RF glass to which I'm more accustomed), but solid performer, especially for available light, photojournalism/documentary-type subjects. From what I've been told, the 28/1.4 became something of a cult lens for a lot of video people.

Bought a Nikon 28 F1.4D to use on my D3X. This is a crazy lens.

Well, I've scratched a fair few itches this time round:

- Fujinon XF 56mm f/1.2 R.
- Sigma 135mm f/1.8 YS lens with M42 mount.
- Hasselblad 150mm f/4 Sonnar.
- Leica CL.

Still need to buy a bicycle by the end of the month, too.

The ME Super was my first real camera, given to me 30 years ago, still have it, still works. A fantastic, underrated SLR. Enjoy!

film (10 rolls ACROS 135-36, 10 rolls HP5 135-36, 5 rolls HP5 120)
film processing supplies (tongue retriever, chemistry bottles)

Now that I have the Rondinax developing tanks, I can broaden the range of films I use, and have to set up for more than one-shot chemistry use.

Well...I bought an Epson R-D1x and so had to have something to mount to it so I also got a CV 35mm f/1.4 SC, a 50/2.5 Summarit, a CV 21/4, and a CV 15/4.5. 🙂

Me happy but broke.

My most recent purchase that has arrived is a very nice Canon EF. And to my mild amazement, everything works on that camera. I've had rather bad luck with dead EFs recently.

Another recent arrival that I bought more for its historical significance than any other good reason is a Nikon Coolpix 950. This was, I believe, Nikon's first high-end digital camera. 3.2 mp, and it sold for about $1,000.

On its way to me is a Nikon N80 AF film camera outfit, which includes the MB-16 battery pack, a Nikon AF 50/1.8, 28-80, and 70-300 lenses. I already own an N80 and better versions of those two zooms. I'll be keeping the 50/1.8 and the MB-16, and I'll sell the rest.
