What have you just BOUGHT?

Sigma DP3 Merrill, to be used primarily as a macro camera. The last of the true Foveons. Next up: Ricoh Theta S and Sony RX1RII.

I got a Canon EOS1n RS. Feels like a SLR, shoots like a rangefinder. Excellent build quality although a bit on the big size...

The DP3M takes beautiful pictures! For macro a Marumi close up adapter works well. I have a +5 for mine. Be sure to grab a bunch of aftermarket batteries as the Merrill eats batteries. A fast/large card is good too as Merrill raw files are huge.

If you have a Mac Iridient Developer does a great job on Merrill raw files and is much faster than Sigma Photo Pro.

If you want to keep your shutter working, don't switch shutter speeds when the camera is cocked. You'll end up losing your 25 and 50 speeds. This is the only fragile thing on this camera; the speed selector plate wears a lot faster against a cocked mechanism. Word from Greg Weber.

Hi Dante,

Thanks, I will do that. Thanks also for the great info on your site!

Just because I couldn't help it, and the price was really good:

Billingham bag
Sekonic light meter
Summicron-M 50 (Type 4)

It had better, given the massively inconvenient workflow...

I don't expect to be shooting at higher than 1:5 magnification, mostly tabletop stuff.

Yes, fortunately I have an extra pair of BP-41s from my DP2 Merrill, and a dual-battery Watson smart charger.

A fast/large card is good too as Merrill raw files are huge.

I don't think Sigma's firmware is really capable of exploiting fast memory cards, e.g. UHS-II or even UHS-I, given the generally ponderous pace of the camera in all respects.

Thanks for the recommendation. I just wish Adobe would support X3F in Lightroom.

I finally ordered my first Eizo monitor.
The last time I worked on Eizo monitors was on the workstations I did CAD and CAM work as a designer and programmer - the Eizo monitors back then where CRTs - anyone remember them?

I also bought a new printer for the office, one of those Fiat 500 sized multi thingies that even cook pasta and make espresso if you press the right buttons I believe ;-)
