What have you just BOUGHT?

In a stroke of luck, the previous M2 was an utter dud, but soon after it arrived another one popped up on eBay and it was significantly less and from a reputable dealer and I now have it in hand (hurray for free 1 day shipping!) I ran it through all of its tests mechanically and physically and it is wonderful. Works great as-is. I fly home for a wedding in October and luck has it that Youxin Ye is located a stone's throw from my hometown so I'll bring it in to him and have it CLA'd as well. Man, having a Leica M in hand is sublime. Never had a strong appreciation for Leica until getting my first Summilux and M and now I'm smitten.

Very glad to hear your luck turned around! A good M2 is a very special camera. Enjoy!

Cheers

I have decided to attempt a "project": not buying ANYTHING for half a year.
I do have enough films and developer here and definitely more cameras and lenses that I need. Now, I need to resist the temptation.
My EBAY watchlist is empty! Yes! Empty!

Keep your fingers crossed for me, gentlemen. 😉

I have used one since around 1980, but mine got ruined in Sandy.

Leica X Vario:

I am mainly an old school rangefinder film photographer who thumbs his nose at zooms. However, I am beginning to see why people get addicted to this X Vario. At every focal length and aperture the IQ is comparable to that of a high quality prime, and for me the excellent higher ISO performance is adequate compensation for the relatively slow optical speed.

Just put in an order for a highly customized Gibellini ACN45 4x5 camera in raw / silver aluminum with blue knobs / hardware, blue bellows and blue carbon fiber parts. Now the wait...

Traded in some underused gear for a 90mm macro elmar.

Looking back over pictures I've shot the last few years, a surprising number of keepers were taken with longer lenses. I don't carry them frequently due to size. This lens seems like one I'd carry around with a 35 (my main focal length) and that has the faster focusing I prefer.
