It's been some time since I've owned an SLR of any type (never owned a DSLR, just lots of FSLRs, back when we just called them SLRs). Found a Canon A-1 from a consignment shop at a low price (they didn't know how to test if it worked) on ebay, and it showed up yesterday. Sadly, the battery vendor on ebay lied ("tag spammed" their battery with a lot of models that it isn't), so I had to order a proper Duracell from another vendor, and won't know if the A-1 is fully functional for another day or three. Other than the foam looking like 34 year old foam (found at foam replacement kit on ebay for $20, I'll get that if the electronics check out), the camera looks very lightly used. It looks like I got a good deal!
I had picked up a Canon 50/3.5 macro and an FD-Fuji X converter, but later got the proper Fuji 60/2.4 macro, so the Canon lens was sitting around unused. Yes, I bought a camera to make a lens not feel lonely! Plus, I'm trying to convince my wife to take a darkroom photography class, and the A-1 would be a good camera for that, much more practical than trying to teach her the M6.
