Hi Mark,
Technically I doubt they are better, possibly not as good; I don't know for sure. However, I do like the looks of the square shape and lower profile hood.
I love photography, I think I'm a pretty good photographer (debatable I'm sure) but I also love the looks of cameras and all the paraphernalia that goes with them. So, I indulge in fancy hoods, straps, this and that, it's fun!
All the best,
Mike
OK thanks, Mike. I need a hood for my 35/2 so I might check these out.
Best,
Mark

Miranda S. I've had a few Mirandas over the years, but never one of the early knob-wind models. Got this grubby but functional one from westborn camera for a song. No instant return mirror on this model, runs quiet as a Leica.
I much prefer the earlier Mirandas to the later sensorex ones. I had two sensorex both with issues with the mirror (the light meter cell is on the mirror!). The early ones are so simple and well made.

Here's the Robot 1 I mentioned I found recently, after a thorough clean. It has some cool 1930's features: auto-wind, internal yellow-green filter (controlled by the lever around the shutter speed dial), automatic film counter, shutter lock (the collar under the big spring winding dial), and of course the rotating spy viewfinder complete with blue window for assessing black and white contrast.

A near new (Jan 2021) 50mm Summilux ASPH. It is as dazzling as most say it is. This after many Leica and non Leica 50mm lenses. That and M10-P is very nice combination to work with.

This is an estate purchase, lots of nice Paterson pieces all in good shape. These have today been cleaned up, glued back together with JB Weld, and ready to reassemble/reconfigure into another pair of custom made 70mm 220 film tanks. I have one of each right now I'm presently using, and like 'em, the long tanks will hold five rolls of 35mm, or two 220 lengths of 70mm film plus a roll of 35mm. The small tanks will hold one roll of 220 length 70mm, two rolls of 35mm, or a couple of rolls of 120. So pretty good production and having extra tanks is great luxury to me. I sometimes procrastinate when it comes to film developing, this will speed up the backlog considerably I would think. I have a lot of developer that I want to start using again.

I bought a Ricoh that was being advertised as a GRD from but the pictures appeared to be a GR, put in an offer and got it. Turned out to be a GR; suits me.

Excellent lens. That’s what came with my new SP500 in 1971 and I used it as my only lens for the next 15 years. I still use my SP500 and that lens; that’s what I used on my vacation last month. Very sharp. Well built. Feels perfect. I’ve never been disappointed with it.This to go with my black Spotmatic

I did a bit of reading before buying it. The f2 versions are identical to the f1.8 but cheaper and perform better wide open (f2 vs f1.8) as you would expect from a stopped down lens. I had the smc version of this lens and was great but performed like a modern lens and to an extent lacked character (my appraisal of it).
As you said, this batch of 55f2 was meant to be sold with the SP500 and was produced alongside the SMC version. It is a transitional model with the mount of the SMC that allows open metering so it can be used with the Spotmatics F, ES, ESII etc..
I got it for £38 which I think is an excellent price. I can't wait to test it.
