I'm asserting a common humanity in the face of a breakdown of morality on the part of "leaders", whoever they may be and whatever country they may be leading. Now, I'm done responding to you. OtL has already called you out for your attempts to troll and bait RFF members over the years. It's ugly and sad.
 
Bit of an over-reaction there. You said something, I asked you for clarification. The appropriately named Out To Lunch, says provocative things and then whines when it’s pointed out. Everyone is a troll to him when they call him out for inconsistency. Thought you were better than that.

Decided that the Nikon OEM battery grip for the D810 was _way_ too expensive.

OTOH, $40 for a new 3rd party one? That's a bit more doable 😉

Got the shipped notice from Amazon today, should be here on Wednesday so I'll see how it feels with it on there. I doubt I'll have much in the way of need for the second battery since this has really good battery life to begin with, but the idea of having the portrait mode grip and controls could be useful. And it is nice to be able to use 8 AA batteries as an emergency backup if I were travelling somewhere.

Looks solid and well made, at least from the pictures. For $40.00 !!?? Chinese made, so it may appear under different brands. What is the brand of this item, for others who are interested?
As an aside, why-oh-why can't everyone just make their battery packs compatible with AA's? I just tossed $300 for a rebuilt battery and charger for my Rollei. No other options!

My attitude is that it is inexpensive enough that so long as it's not DOA, I'm ahead of the game. New Nikon ones are $426.95 (B&H) and used are over $100 if complete on ebay so this is worth it to me.

Either the EN-EL15 LiON battery used by the camera or 8 AA batteries can be used in it so that flexibility is nice to have.
 
The Nikon MB-D12 battery grip is readily available secondhand for a fraction of the original new price. MPB has 14 listed for $32-79. I bought two used ones years ago for my D800 and D810 and they've chugged along great ever since, even after dropping the D810 about 4 feet onto a hardwood floor a couple of months ago.

But, yeah, over $400 for a new one is kinda...well, outrageous.

Dear wslewisiii,

I've purchased third party battery grips for Nikon, Canon, and Olympus cameras. I also had genuine manufacturers grips to compare with the knockoffs. In general, the 3rd party grips don't fit quite as well, but all of them work just fine with their respective cameras. The big bonus is that often around the $ 60.00 mark you can get a grip, 2 spare batteries, and a dual-bank charger that will work via 110V & 220V wall power, 12V car power, and USB charging.

Dear Board,

I took a chance on an auction and bought a Yashica 635 complete with the 35mm film mask and take-up spool, a bayonet lens hood, and a yellow filter. The camera looks very nice, and a quick operational check shows that all adjustments, levers, and dials seem to work correctly, but it has the 35mm take-up spool mounted with the 120mm pressure plate installed. I'm half tempted to swap the 120 parts back in and shoot roll of film.

Whether I do that or not, it will be going to Mark Hama for a CLA in the not-too-distant future.

It has the Yashikor 80mm f3.5 lens. I've loaded it with 120 film and I'll try it out the next day or two.

Then I'll try out my Lab-Box and see what develops. 😉

Light Lens Lab 1.4x Viewfinder Magnifier

Now my favorite accessory! Was disappointed looking through it the first time until I realized my viewfinder was dirty prior to installation. Now everything is crystal clear.

A note for those who wear glasses: Looking through my 0.72x viewfinder, the 50mm framelines become the size of 28mm framelines, which isn't a problem for me personally, but you essentially get 1.00x magnification which is fantastic.
