Just curious, R Grouch, are you implying a moral equivalency here?On both sides of the Iron Curtain, folks used their cameras to snap weddings, babies' first steps, a happy gathering of friends or relatives. They went about their lives as best as they could, and, in the back of their minds they lived with the secret dread that some madman would press the Big Red Button. I repeat, on both sides. I remember, as I'm sure you do. If only that dread were a thing of the past.
There he is, again in full force...f.hayek, the voice of dumb-assery. Cheers, OtLa moral equivalency
I'm asserting a common humanity in the face of a breakdown of morality on the part of "leaders", whoever they may be and whatever country they may be leading. Now, I'm done responding to you. OtL has already called you out for your attempts to troll and bait RFF members over the years. It's ugly and sad.Just curious, R Grouch, are you implying a moral equivalency here?
Looks solid and well made, at least from the pictures. For $40.00 !!?? Chinese made, so it may appear under different brands. What is the brand of this item, for others who are interested?Decided that the Nikon OEM battery grip for the D810 was _way_ too expensive.
OTOH, $40 for a new 3rd party one? That's a bit more doable 😉

Got the shipped notice from Amazon today, should be here on Wednesday so I'll see how it feels with it on there. I doubt I'll have much in the way of need for the second battery since this has really good battery life to begin with, but the idea of having the portrait mode grip and controls could be useful. And it is nice to be able to use 8 AA batteries as an emergency backup if I were travelling somewhere.
This one is called "FocusFoto Pro" on Amazon. Link here:Looks solid and well made, at least from the pictures. For $40.00 !!?? Chinese made, so it may appear under different brands. What is the brand of this item, for others who are interested?
As an aside, why-oh-why can't everyone just make their battery packs compatible with AA's? I just tossed $300 for a rebuilt battery and charger for my Rollei. No other options!

My attitude is that it is inexpensive enough that so long as it's not DOA, I'm ahead of the game. New Nikon ones are $426.95 (B&H) and used are over $100 if complete on ebay so this is worth it to me.
Either the EN-EL15 LiON battery used by the camera or 8 AA batteries can be used in it so that flexibility is nice to have.
Dear Shawn,Nice camera, which lens do you have? I had that kit with the Yashinon. Should not have sold it.
I've not seen that model Kiev before. Quite a handsome camera, actually; very unexpected when one considers what those later FSU SLRs generally looked like. What's the date of manufacture? And a camera.
