What have you just BOUGHT?

I'm expecting two neat purchases: a Pentax Auto 110 SLR and ten rolls of the brand new Lomo 'Orca' 110 film (100 speed B&W).

When I started shooting film, I found those cute keychain 110 cameras on Ebay. Picked one up and rather enjoyed carrying it just as a fun little gadget. But because of the lack of film, shooting one is rather difficult since you're limited to the stock on places like Ebay. Which is mostly 200 speed and doesn't work in some of the cooler 110 cameras that have different speed settings like the Auto 110 (takes 100 or 400 speed).

So when Lomo came out with their new film last month, I decided to pick some up when it came back in stock. And a cool camera to go with it. Can't wait to get it!
 
I've recently bought a Minolta Dynax 9 on Ebay. It's absolutely the last thing I need but I couldn't resist it at £240. The camera, although not advertised as such, is in mint condition and I already have a couple of lenses I can use with it. Initial impressions are that it's a really solid piece of kit although it doesn't have the feel of my Nikon F5.

I remember years ago thinking about buying a Dynax 9 when it had just been released. At that time it was priced about £1200 if I remember correctly. These old top pro spec cameras (Canon Eos 1, Nikon F5, Minolta Dynax 9) are fantastic value for money nowadays.

Congratulations. I'm also thinking of a Dynax 9 or 7 as my next analog SLR. Big plus: Most AF Minolta lenses can be used on all Sony alpha bodies, if you would go digital SLR with Sony.

Reading the forums, I seem to recall that a lot of folk think that if you don't need the out and out ruggedness of the Dynax 9, then the Dynax 7 is actually a better camera. I can't remember what it does that the Dynax 9 doesn't but I have noticed that Dynax 7 prices are comparatively high so there must still be a demand.

Having said that, film cameras are amazing value for money and with the sophisticated metering systems of the later cameras, duff exposures, even on slide film, are rare in my experience.

I'm a Nikon and Contax guy on the SLR side but that Dynax 9 is a great camera. 1/12,000th shutter, the fastest out there.

Over the years I have managed to collect more cameras than is sensible - the Dynax 9 is only the latest. I'm sure I'll have lots of fun with it.

Like you I have a soft spot for Contax cameras. The Contax AX is one of my favourites. I'm always amazed how accurate the autofocus is and because there is a regular focussing screen it's very easy to check. The speed of focussing is perfectly adequate for my needs and the shutter release is second to none - a great camera!

I'd like to get hold of a N1 but I haven't been able to find one cheap enough. I'm a Scotsman, so every pound is a prisoner!

The 7 was already the next evolution camera in 2000 and had many technical improvements over the more sturdy 9. My important differencies are:
  • Support for wireless HSS flash
  • Support for SSM lenses and ADI metering (for the 9 an upgrade were available)
  • Better DOF preview functionalities
  • Standard with data back (bulky accessory for the 9)

I bought an Olympus OM-1n as I transition from the heavier Nikon F3. I had thought to sell the F3 and the 105mm, but my nine year old loves the F3 with the 50 and the 105 and has asked to keep them. He's getting interested in photography about when I did and it is something I will be encouraging. He already has a good eye and has been shooting my old LX2. He likes the F3 because it is "classic". Looks like I'll be finding another way to finance the two lenses I'm seeking for the Oly.
 
Bought an old Victorian fusee drop wall clock on eBay.
Mechanism doesn't look bad but the case needs some attention - certainly not quite as good as the pictures show. I have a vacant hook on the wall where it can hang - the last occupant of the hook went to my daughter as a wedding present. These old clocks certainly add a bit to the character of a room: character from their appearance, and character from the sound that they make.
Not quite evidence of GAS but certainly CAS - this one adds to a bit of a collection.

I went a bit overboard with the Ebay shopping recently. Wanted 'a few more' p&s's to compliment the bigger cameras.

Bought an Olympus Mju II Zoom 80 half an hour ago, yesterday a 'rare' Ricoh FF70 on the recommendation of RFF 😀 . Also expecting a flash for the Pentax Auto 110 that arrived this morning. Yep, it's going to be a busy week next week.
 
An Olympus E-P1 body on Ebay, in like new condition for $140.00. My friend had (2) 14-42's and gave me one. Would love to eventually get the 20mm 1.7 Panny and the 45 1.8 and then pick up an EMD E-5 body..
