What have you just BOUGHT?

Are these things only for Leica cameras? It sounds like something I coud do with as it seems to me that my Nikon Fm2n and Nikon F301 have different basic diopters, and I haven't got access to a full set of diopter lenses for either camera. At present I'm having to use right angle finders for them, and even though they make the screen image and indicators sharp, they do make the cameras a little awkward to use. Any help would be much appreciated.

Anyway, this week I received a Nikon SB-26 flash (mainly for the rotating head and the slave capability) and an after-market book about it. The book isn't quite as clear as I'd like and there are a couple of misprints in it. It also mentions having to make calculations when using the flash in Manual mode, (this is not the impression I get from my SB-20 flash's manual) and it's a little confusing about Programmed TTL flash and Auto TTL flash. Let's hope the printed manual I've ordered helps on that score.

I'll let you know if it is. The item I bought was specifically marketed for Leica M bodies, but I can see if it fits an F/F2/F3 as well.

Nikon did make the DG-2 magnifier but you'd have to confirm it fits your camera. It's a slick design. It threads into the eyepiece and you use it for critical focus, and the flip it up out of the way for general composition and shooting.

The M5 listed in the classified section. 😬

You will love that camera. It is very different than other Ms, but it has its own soul. It was so far ahead of its time in so many ways. I have a "50 Jahre" Jubilee edition that I sent to DAG for a complete CLA the day I got it. It's a joy to use, just different than my "normal" Ms.

It got a bad rap because the Leica Faithful of the 1970s apparently hated change of any kind. The Japanese got it, though. It is rumored that Leica did a short last run of M5s just the Japanese market. Apparently, these high serial number cameras go for princely sums if they are in the original wrappers. I've never seen one of these so I cannot confirm either the rumors of the pricing.

bought a bag for camera. TULLIO Camera Bag small Canvas Crossbody. sling bag. with insert can carry extra lens and Q2 while walk around w/M.
$24 on Amz took awhile to find, worth it. Both cameras don't fit so well at same time though. (May get the larger size too to have both options.)

The cameras and lenses I want have become too expensive, so I’ve just bought yet another Billingham bag to carry the same cameras and lenses I already have. I don’t claim to be exercising any logic, I just can’t help myself. Ugh.
… and, I just did the same again. Another Billingham bag. The last was a second hand Packington in khaki with very minimal signs of use. This time it’s a second hand 206 Presstop, also in khaki. Photos indicate it also exhibits minimal signs of use. I’ll know for certain when it arrives.

I do like some of these discontinued Billinghams, particularly in the classic khaki canvas. Form and long lasting function.

Edit - I just counted all the Billinghams I have. This will make 21. I am proud and ashamed in equal measure.

Purchased some stapateer camera straps in anticipation of some international traveling, because they look cool, and they would make me feel like I'm Larry Burrows or Henri Huet as I wander through the urban jungle or airports. Sold a VC 35/1.2 gen. 1, and CZJ pre-war 50/1.5, Contax mount.

Yep it's a Yi M1, a micro four-thirds foray from around 10 years ago. 20mp sensor, this one came with two lenses they made, a 45/1.8 and 12-40 zoom. Touch screen interface. Sort of like the Leica TL etc. Currently on 3.2 firmware which is the latest. Had some downloadable Master Guides to help you compose portrait-type photos (this mode superimposes a figure outline on the screen for you to get your model into), unfortunately this is no longer possible apparently due to updates to iOS and Android, and the fact that support ended a long time ago - but obviously was only a gimmick. There are a few preloaded.
Still, it works, it's very small and light, and it's fine for what I wanted - a casual and cheap camera for walks. It has timelapse too, which none of my others cameras do.

Thanks. It's a nice looking body, kind of a Leica M on reducing drugs ... 🙂
... But I already have enough FourThirds and mFourThirds gear that I don't use enough to warrant NOT buying more.

I think I'd rather put that money towards a Hasselblad 28P lens. 😀

Thanks for offer of help. Hmmm, does it screw in? if so I presume that if it fits an F2 or F3 it'll likely have a thread of 22mm and so won't fit my fm2n.

I had thought about a DG2, but I think I'd find flipping it down and then up for every shot rather annoying, and I believe it only magnifies the centre bit, and that wouldn't help me with the framing or the display. You'd think cameras makers would've made diopter correction eyepieces that can be adjusted by the staff in the shops so that they can put one on a camera that a customerbrought in or was thinking of buying to check what correction lens they would need with that particular camera. But I suppose cost and having to make lots of them would've stopped them, IF they'd thought of it in the first place.

Dear Board,

I took 2 cameras on a ride to an out-of-town camera store. It was the last day to take advantage of their light seal replacement deal, so they now have a Canonet 28 and a Canonet QL17 to do for me. While I was there, I picked up an expired 5 pack of Tmax 100 in 120 and an expired 3 pack of Fujicolor 200 36 exp 35mm for $ 86.00 all told.

When I go back next weekend to pick up my Canonets I am taking an OM to M4/3 adapter and Olympus film and digital bodies with me to check out the M Zuiko 100mm/f2.8 film lens they have in the display case. Having a 200mm/f2.8 for my M1-X for less than $ 100.00 seems like a worthwhile gamble, as does having a portrait lens for my Olympus film bodies. If anyone has any experience with the lens on either film or digital I'd appreciate your comments, be they good, or bad.

Unfortunately, somehow along the way I also managed to buy a new windshield for my pickup truck. I literally replaced the windshield in my daily driver Nissan Rouge on Monday and now I need a new windshield for my weekend F-150 truck. Who loses 2 windshields in a week????????????? 😡

Dear Tim,

On the one hand:

I feel your pain,

On the other hand, and don't take this the wrong way, and it's not personal, but:

Crap's always funny when it happens to someone else.

Dear seany65,

Trust me when I say, no offense taken. But to put things in perspective, last Friday I discovered my windshield was cracked on my Nissan.

On Saturday evening, my sister-in-law called me to tell me my brother was in the ICU near death with a severe case of pneumonia and sepsis. He's still in the ICU but his recovery has been remarkable, and I spoke to him today, so all is well on that front.

But now we are back to square one. If my cell phone rings tonight, I'm throwing out the fugging window. I've had all the bad news I need for quite a while!

The local camera store had a Minolta 200mm F2.8 APO lens for a really good price.

Crazy how much bigger it is vs the Minolta 135mm F2.8.

Dear Plexi,

If you would be so kind as to post a review of the meter after a few uses, I'm sure it would be welcomed by more people than just me! 😉

It someone else has already reviewed here on RFF then I'll have to look for it. I'd like to get a smaller modern light meter that does everything and doesn't cost a bunch of money. The Lumo seems it will fit that requirement.

Hey Tim, I have now used the meter for a couple photo trips and developed the films from them, the meter is spot on, super easy to use. Could not be happier!
Not tried it for flash yet, but I'm confident it'll be good.

Tim, I'm sorry to hear about all the bad news! I'm glad to hear that your brother is getting better.
