What have you just BOUGHT?

DJI Osmo Action Camera to record my round the world trip. At $350 it is cheaper then the GoPro Hero 7 and has the same or better features. It was released three days ago.

I tried a bunch of lens brands and adapters on my Sony A7 II and the OMs are the ones I use the most (28mm f/3.5 and 50mm f/1.4)

I am awaiting the arrival of the following beauty - an Olympus OM 35-70mm f3.6. This little lens is regarded as one of their sharpest and best short zooms from that era. It has a constant maximum aperture. When I say "little" well it is an OM lens but for one of those lenses is not quite so little, weighing in at over 400 grams being packed solid with glassy goodness. But even so I felt that it would make a nice walk about lens on a Sony NEX 7.

I am beginning to feel the desire to try some more OM lenses on mirrorless cameras due to their relative small size and sound performance though I have to say I am not all that taken by their physical appearance which looks OK - but merely average. (Some lenses are pretty and some merely functional). While on the topic of new(ish) purchases I have also recently bought the 100mm f2.8 OM lens and found it is a nice performer which is particularly nice because it is tiny - being about the same size as most SLR 50mm lenses..... depicted below in a Sony A7 (not mine).

Omega B-66XL enlarger

s-l400.jpg

It's the same model my high school had and I used when I took photo shop class in the mid-1970's.
I've used other larger and more expensive enlargers since but I have always wanted one of these.
Omega was a local company (Woodside, Queens) when this was made, another touchstone for me.

I picked up a black model Fuji X100S a few months ago and wanted a half case and thumbrest for it. The silver model I purchased on preorder got a Luigi halfcase with handgrip and I bought the original Lensmate thumbrest for it as well. I quickly picked up another Luigi halfcase in black on eBay from Luigi (it was old stock) and this past weekend happened on a used Lensmate X100 thumbrest. While the thumbrest will stand out a little (it is the silver model) on the black X100S, I have now a complete setup to my liking.

Went to a camera show yesterday and got out relatively cheap. Only bought a Kodak 28mm finder, which is offset to the left and completely covers the shutter dial on my M3. Serves me right for not bringing it with me.

I don't plan on shooting a lot of 28mm with the M3, but while my M8 is in the shop I wanted to be able to keep using my 7Artisans 28mm, which I haven't used very much yet.

Also bought a pro pack of Portra 160 in 35mm.

My HP 6500a printer/scanner died yesterday for the last time... I replaced it with an Epson XP-7100. It's a much better unit far as I can tell so far, much easier to set up and use. Much nicer scans too.

I just got this '77 F2AS from Irohas in Japan last week, along with a 28/2.8 Ai-S and an 85/1.4 Ai-S. It's my second F2AS. My first one was bought new in '78, when I was in high school. Summer jobs, dad money (he was a sucker for nice camera gear) and living in Japan made the purchase possible way back then. I sold it later when I was in the Navy.

:bang:

Using it still feels like second-nature. One thing that surprised me is that it does NOT feel especially heavy. DSLRs with f/2.8 zooms feel heavy. It also feels more compact than I remember. This camera's meter works fine and there are no big issues. Compared to my original camera, this one's film advance feels a tiny bit rough, but my recollection after 40 years might be faulty. I want it to be as near-perfect as possible, so I'm in Sover Wong's long line, because I love the damn thing.

KER-CLACK!

Test shot with the 85. Yeah, 85/1.4 landscape shot. FP4+ with a-bit-too-warm Ilfosol-3.

A couple of German cameras, both bought in the same shop. A Welta Weltini (II) made c. 1938 and a Zeiss Ikon Box Tengor 54 made c.1934-1943.

What's unusual about this camera techincal details is that I've found no reference of any Weltini mounting a Steinheil Cassarit f2,8 lens. There are Steinheil Cassar f2,9 lenses in these cameras, acording to catalogues, but not this specific lens. Maybe someone swaped it at some point (after WW2?).
