David, thanks for the info. I did think it was probably in Russian, but other langauges also use the Cyrillic alphabet and not knowing exactly what the paper was, I had to hedge my bets.
Alfa2 on the USSRphoto forum says there shouldn't be any string in the construction. I can't see how the green string would get in there but I can guess that the white string is from a label which hasn't been removed, although I've no idea what the soft-ish brown stuff that the white string rests on in the photo is.
All part of the service.
BTW the focal length shows its Contax heritage. You can find a lot about it if you do a search* in Russian for the lens but the answer will be in Russian and won't tell you much. You can look at the pictures and if you like puzzles and have a long boring journey to do...
I wondered if the string was an attempt at repairing a light seal but it shouldn't be needed. OTOH, who knows and string is a well known and respectable seal (if we are talking about Japanese cameras).
Regards, David

I bought a collapsible Industar 50 with case, caps and receipt thingy. I have to presume it's a receipt as I don't read whatever language it's in. Click on pics for big versions:

Not sure there should be green string in it!:

Nor this string at the other end of the lens barrel!:
![]()
It may be a bit too rusty on the inside!:

Here's the receipt thing:

The receipt is for my lens:

Perhaps I shouldn't have paid £15 for it.
By the way, try to use some other way to share your images
This may be not Work safe.

A wonderfuly old-yet-working-quite-well No.1 Panoram Kodak model C. Panoramic medium format camera made in 1903-1905 (it's one of my oldest cameras). It was designed for 105 format, but works (at least this one) with 120 without problems.
And here an example (you can only take 4 pictures with a 120 roll):

Another Day in Paradise
Picked up a few things lately.
A Rollei E110 for squirts-and-giggles. Fun little camera.
I snagged a Canon 7 with a Japanese Summilux for only a couple hundy, and the thing is mintier than Spira! Total score. Happy camper I am. Always missed the one I sold a decade ago. And the 50mm 1.4 was a nice bonus...
I picked up another Minox B but I haven't received it yet. I really just bought it for the strap and the film, but if it works I'll have two.
I picked up a Kodak disk camera, but the dude either didn't send it or it has been lost in the post and the dude never responds to inquiries. First problem I've ever had with anyone on Ebay after twenty years and it is some stupid $10 thing.... Go figure.

@Marcelo, Thanks for letting me know there may be some sort of problem. There shouldn't be though as I always mark these pics as "family friendly", so if some slightly "naughty" adverts turn up it's imagebam's fault.
I did used to use imageshack, but they weren't all that reliable so I switched to imagebam and they seem to be pretty good.
@David Hughes, Thanks for the extra info. I had a closer look at the end of the lens with the green string and it does seem to be further in than I thought, but it's very hard to tell as the gap is very small. I've taken the white string off the barrel and I now think that means I'm a fully qualified Lens/Camera repair Technician. Am I correct? lol.

Yesterday came in the mail a nice tiny heavy shiny Konica III, and already lurking on a cute Ricoh 300.
Before that, i'll try to let the Konica settle in. But the Ricoh is sooo sexy...:bang:

Found a Minox EC that looked lonely on the thrift store shelf, so I picked it up (and a sealed container with two rolls of film) for $20.

Nope, Sorry. This place ain't the place to be if you want help to stop buying cameras. Take me for example, I had a Nikon F301 and a Ricoh 500GX and wasn't looking to get any more. I now have 13 cameras, plus lenses, lens hoods, filters and bags that I didn't know I was going to buy when I joined. And do you know what? There wasn't one single word of sympathy from anyone here! lol.
