Since I couldn't afford to buy a new lens, I bought a half of a new lens - the Voigtlander 40mm f2.8 Heliar.

I've had my eye on this quirky little collapsible for awhile and since I already had an extra Voigtlander VM/E Close Focus Adapter that I can leave on it all the time I thought "why not" and the price was right too!

28 Summilux

Had a 75 Summicron that never spoke to me, so bundled it off with a 28 Elmarit ASPH, threw in a few $$ and picked up a 28 Summilux recently serviced by Leica.

Hand-holding is actually fine, thanks for asking. It's ergonomically better than you'd think. i've only been using it around the backyard, hoping to take it on a day excursion later this week.

I didn't have any lenses beyond 135mm and the SFTOO finder always intrigued me - got this full set with the TZFOO and 200mm f4.5 Telyt for a good price.

Now I can live my dreams of being in the Swedish military (I have a Leica If to slap this on too). No Meyer Görlitz Tele-Megor 5.5/250mm for me, though, no idea what that thing costs.

Maybe I'll get a visoflex of some kind for close focusing but using this for distant photos in daylight at the moment - first roll to be developed tonight.

Can you still buy batteries for it? I gave mine away a few months ago because all three “fresh” batteries died within months of each other.

This! It needs a clean and the sticky blades a little a Ronsonol but otherwise very nice condition.

Most egregious case of GAS known to man? Just lashed out £!?% (you can all check what sort of price these go for- and it’s more than I’ve spent on any single of photographic equipment in my life) on a 50mm lens that focusses down to 18 inches- exactly like the standard lens on just about any 35mm SLR, without hesitation, repetition or deviating from the subject- and without faffing about with a separate set of specs. I’ve lusted after one of these ever since I didn’t buy one for £85*. Most ridiculous part- I don’t even have a camera to put it on, so that’s even more expense coming up. And if I’m going M, where does that leave my Barnacks?
Also photographed with the box it came in. Couldn’t you have found anything bigger, lads?

*That included M3. Choice of 2. £85 was a lot of money in 1974 when you’re still at school.

thanks to YouTuber Analog Insights, I succumbed to my first camera gear purchase of this pandemic year. "Japanese Summilux" came from mail today from Japan. paid perhaps 50eur/usd over the average price, to get mint version. to my surprise, it seems to be also the rarer first version of the two (not that either version is particularly rare).

my first impression is: wow how great condition the lens is. even being 50-60year old, it still looks like new!

Quick snap of Bangkok skyline from my balcony at f11. seems pretty resistant to flare, which is good as I belong to "lens caps rather than hoods" - camp 😀

I thought it might be difficult to get used to due to the lack of screen, but this might be the coolest digital camera I've ever owned, even more so than the M9 Monochrom, which I absolutely love.
