What have you just BOUGHT?

I know it's not an RF, but I scored this little Canon AE-1 Program in a thrift store. I thought I'd share this otherwise unremarkable find simply because thrift store cameras (at least in my area) seem to be few and far between. It was languishing there at a sadly low price, so I thought, "What the heck!" and took a risk on it. All it needed was a battery (it does have the puppy sneezing sounding shutter, but I'll get around to lubricating that and for now, the speeds seem to be fairly accurate). One of the lenses is hazy inside, but the other three are fine and dandy (although two of those are cheap-o JC Penney and Sears knock offs). The mounted lens is a nifty fifty Canon FD f/1.8. But the biggest bonuses in the bundle were an expired roll of Fuji Superia 800 and the original paperwork.

Anyway, I've been driving my family crazy by dragging them to thrift shop after thrift shop and just wanted to share the fruits of their suffering.

A Bausch & Lomb Enlarging Focusing Magnifier. The
Scoponet I'd had, I can't use. I wear strong bifocal glasses.
After following the instructions for cleaning (you had to
have 1/2 a brain in fifties, unlike today), works like a charm

Correct. I think is the ball bearing that lifts the mirror that gets dry of lubricant.

Thanks y'all! You are both correct and I misspoke (or miswrote). I'm failing my precision of language habits! It is inded the ball bearing in that escapement in need of a lube which squeals when I fire the camera. As soon as my Amazon next day delivery comes with a needle oiler, I'll do a little minor disassembly to get just a drop in the right place.

It's a cute little camera...in program mode, I can almost treat it as a point and shoot (that just needs a little focus help).

There is somewhere online the lab review of the AE-1 that popular photography did in the 70s. If I find the link I can send it to have a look.

A hand wound metronome (thank you AA)
to time 8x10 prints in a tray. I'm sharing
a studio apartment with a darkroom and
ran out of plugs. The glow from the big
Gralab is faded.

Five minutes et voilà, no more squeak!

And I'm impressed by your encyclopedic knowledge, Pan! I found that lab report from the October 1981 issue of Popular Photography on page 119. I've attached the link for the curious. Thanks y'all!

I bought the beater SP from the classifieds! I missed out on a cheap one last time and really regretted it, so I’m glad to pick this one up. Also bought a Nikon 2.5cm viewfinder from KEH for my 2.5cm lens.

I just bought a print washer. Never thought I'd see another one in my life!

Also when digging through some boxes of stuff, discovered an Enna Lithagon 4.5/35 lens I didn't even know I had! That's almost like buying something new!
