What have you just BOUGHT?

I don’t think I’ll be buying any more cameras for quite a while — as a matter of fact I think I’ll be doing a pretty good sell-off of cameras this winter.

What we have bought recently is a bunch of stuff for the house — exterior lighting, all the appliances, a poured concrete patio, retaining wall and front steps/landing, decent internet (going from 3mbps to about 150mbps), lower level trim and baseboard, balcony railing, many truckloads of gravel, and hopefully hot water by the end of the week. Hoping to move in before the snow flies.

Looks like you'll get some great light. Congrats.

I really like the rock accents in the yard. I'm already imagining them in your landscaping.....
No cool rocks in my yard. We live in an ancient flood plain valley...

Congrats on the cool new digs!!!

Gotta love that Canadian Shield — we have a lot of granite and other rock types on our property. They had to blast to install the ICF — took out 30 truckloads!

The dreaded Laurentian Shield. Drove it once from Sault Ste. Marie west. Never again! While living in Montreal I heard tales of driving south to the US to avoid that stretch. After driving it I knew why. But it was an interesting drive of curves and small hills. Bears walking across the highways. We US'ers do not get much of that so I am glad I drove it and saw what was to be seen. Best done in the summer months. ;o) Fait froid la.

I bought a different sort of camera for working with surface mount electronics, and general hobby tasks. I've owned an optical microscope for years, but lacked a means of photographing my subjects, except by holding a camera up to the eyepiece, so this ought to be fun. Works as a standalone device, but can also be connected to a PC via USB. Power source is 5V, 2A USB.

Can't tell if it's conical or elliptical stylus. Ya might need a more powerful scope 😉.
Glad to hear someone having fun with surface mount. I decided I'm not that modern....but lots of old-school point to point stuff. Mostly tube based audio designs. Some are my own.

Dear Board,

Having lived in Broome County NY for 11 years and loving every minute of it including the awful Winters and the periodic floods I often wondered about getting my hands on an Ansco camera. Yes, there were dozens of box style cameras floating around, but I hoped for a 120 folder.

An Ansco Titan came up on eBay and I figured, here's my chance. I bought it over the weekend, and it arrived today. A quick visit to the Butkus site for a manual and I began checking it out. Everything seems to be in working order. I guess I'll load some film in it and give it a proper test tomorrow.

I really hope it works, but even if it doesn't it will be a nice memento of the best place I ever lived. I loved Binghamton NY. When I lived there the city was well past its prime. But I fell in love with the area and especially the people. It really felt like home, and I still miss it well over twenty years later.

Wish me luck on a successful film check please! ;)

Regards,

Tim Murphy

1935 Edition of Morgan and Lester 'Leica Manual'. Only a few pages left to read. Can be heavy and seems very basic. But this was 89 years ago. People new to photography, 35mm. in particular, needed the advice and guidance. Must get the latest edition and compare the two.

This week I bought a Hoya 22.5mm Skylight 1A filter for my Petri "compact" half-frame camera because I thought that maybe the Hoya UV filter and the lens may give a "cool" caste to any colour photos I manage to not ruin.

I also bought a Gossen Variosix F, but this time with the full kit of both normal and high-range domes, the 5 degree spot attachment and the rather thinly padded, loose case which also has the velcro patches not quite in the correct areas to match and thus give a tight fit. I wasn't going to buy the full kit, I'd just been looking for the high range dome for the one I already have but then I saw the price (£90) for the lot and because I was under the impression my first couldn't work with the spot attachment (I'd bought one from ebay and my meter was giving 5 stops difference with it compared to without it) I bought this kit. On testing both meters with and without it seems both meters work properly. My first does have a slightly loose/free swinging head so it'll be my spare.

This week I bought a 1967 Yashica 635. I am a little bit miffed that the Rollei lens hood I have doesn't fit - too small on the mounting rings and too big around the metal bit to fit between the control dials. I've just had to spend £38 and postage for a Yashica lens hood.

I traded a few seldom-used 35mm cameras and lenses for a Leicaflex SL with 90/2.8 Summicron R. The Leicaflex had a broken meter, which I fixed. I have a roll of Tri-X in it right now.

Nikkor 24mm f/2.8 AF-D and 85mm f/1.8 AF-D for my Zf/FTZ II.. Light weight options for MF (AF-D obviously doesn't work with the Zf), which allow for precise manual focusing with all focusing aids and 3D metering.

West Yorkshire Cameras memorial purchase. Like I really have a desperate need for another unusably ancient Leica. According to the serial number (6xxx) one of the first run of dial-set Compurs, “factory converted” to rim set. Described as “excellent” condition, which I suppose is relative for a camera almost a century old. A couple of points I don’t think WYC noticed, and I didn’t until I got home. The tip of the shutter release (on the front of the lens- the normal release on the body only stops and releases the wind-on) is broken, leaving an awkwardly small and sharp stub. There is something wrong with the diaphragm- it doesn’t start moving until f4.5, so until that’s fixed, remember to set a stop smaller than nominally required. As indicated on the listing the eyepiece glass on the supplied rangefinder is cracked. I already have a HFOOK, but calibrated in feet, rather than meters. I can see no way of fitting any filter, lens hood, or even lens cap.

And thanks for the discount, Howard. I’m still wondering if I should have bought a Spotmatic.

Have an used SMC FA 50/1.4 coming as a high speed short tele/portrait length lens for my APS-C Pentax K5. That will be here probably by midweek.

Also ordered a generic Chinese copy of the D-BG4 battery/vertical grip for it as well. I find it's a wee bit compact for me at times plus having the ability to use 6 AA batteries in a pinch is nice. That will take a wee bit longer to arrive.

I probably would gave gone for the Spotty but I'm on that kick lately :ROFLMAO:

Enjoy!

Bellroy cinch mini messenger (6L) and a large lens bag - have put the lens bag as an inner liner in the messenger bag for a spare body and lens when I’m out, also has room for fill or could fit a hassy body and 80mm lens

This lens: it's a Schacht Travenar R 90 mm f/2.8 from about 1968. For a long time I have been looking for a 90 mm lens for my 1956 Exakta (which was just CLA'd and got new shutter curtains this summer in Goerlitz, Germany).
It wasn't easy to find - sure I had found another Travenar a while ago which had more than 10 aperture blades (instead of 6 like mine) but that one had had a fungus, unfortunately.

I think with this special old Ihagee 50s waist level finder and its large screen it might be a nice gear for my first street experiments.

You can still buy the Spotmatic, a pretty good film cameras IIRC.
