What have you just BOUGHT?

Godfrey, what I meant but didn't really say is the EVF peaking highlights works over the whole screen so glowing red outlines to subjects make it easier for me. Lord knows I've railed against EVFs for years until I finally used a camera that had a good one that works for me. I was preparing to sell all my M-mount Zeiss and Voigtländer lenses because it was frustrating to try to use them on my Fuji X-Pros. Then I bought a Nikon Z5 and fell in love. Even in bright sunshine I was able to find sharp focus, especially if I use the magnified view of the camera along with the highlight peaking.

My macular degeneration is progressing. Dead spot in my shooting eye and distortion in straight lines in both eyes. At least the progression has slowed down since I started taking the AREDs vitamins and seeing a retinal specialist.

And it's good to hear you're getting some relief from the macular degeneration!
I always had a foreboding of going blind in my old age; with today's medications and techniques, that fear is much alleviated.

Personally, I find that peaking tends to get into the way more than it helps in most cases. But a good high-rez EVF along with focus magnification is stunning, allowing super focus accuracy when I need it. If only my eyes weren't failing me in a different way, making the EVF/SLR very difficult to use in bright sun ... But we got what we got: I just make the best of it and keep going. 💪

I got this generic hot shoe mounted, waist level viewfinder, for my Ricoh GRiii, off of Mssr. Bezos’ website. The entire field of view is 28mm, and there are frame lines for 35 and 50 … I usually have the Ricoh in the 35mm crop mode. It works quite well in bright light, it’s intended use case. It’s also nice getting a waist-level perspective, difficult to do otherwise from a camera with no tilting screen and lacking a VF.

I’ve bought two LX’s this year. Great cameras. I’d like the waist level finder as well as the one without a shoe. But prices are insane. I want a black DE-1 for my f2 as well but same situation with those.

Back in 1982 I got an FF1 with my first Lx, they are expensive now then they were back then. Lx are great cameras! But you already know that, good luck in your hunt for a DE-1 too.
 
Thsanks for the picture Tuna, It fits my Industar 50-2 but doesn’t work the same way to indicate aperture, so still surplus to my needs. Looks like a nice way to avoid turning the camera around, and to have a lens hood.

Yes my 5cm Elmar has a raised notch to fit directly into the open notch of the hood (seen in your second picture posted). Screw on the side locks everything in place and turning the tip of the hood opens and closes the aperture - properly if you’ve lined up the proper aperture to match the settings on the hood before locking in place. I’ve had lens flare issues in the past and this has solved that problem.
