What have you just DROPPED?

More of a dunk story than a drop story.

Years ago I went on a canoe trip through the Pine Barrens. I took along a Leica iiic and collapsible 50mm Summicron in a Leica Never-Ready case. A friend of mine capsized my canoe as a joke, and the camera (and I) went splooshing into the river. Thought it was ruined. I fished it out, opened the body and wiped off all the water I could find. The lens was fine. Later that day I stuck the iiic in my Farberware Convection Oven at a low temp for about an hour. It dried out all the moisture. I used it for a few more years with perfect results and eventually traded it in.

A Kodak z710...I was going to give this camera to a friend and therefore checking that it was set up properly for her...
I got too busy in the garage and set it down on the trunk of our car...well, I ended up heading out to the store and forgetting it was there, I drove off...
It fell off in a direction I don't remember heading in and spent the night out in the cold and rain...
A neighbor (Kim) found it and placed it at another neighbor's (John) front door...he had no idea where this came from so called the police to check it out...the office pulled the SD card and looked at the photos...John (our neighbor three houses down, saw our truck and knew whose it was)
The cop called me to identify the pictures on the card then left it with yet another neighbor (Roger the Policeman)...
Roger sent me a text letting me know he had the camera and would bring it over when I got home...he sent the pictures of the camera...
I blew out as much water as I could then placed it in a bag with rice...after a day I removed it and saw that there was water in the lens and the screen showed signs of moisture too...
I was able to remove the lens, take it apart and dry it out...I put it all back in the rice bag and left it there for another two days...
It works perfectly...a little banged up but all is good...Tough camera...

Quite the story. You did a good job cleaning it up, and it IS a tough little camera.

This, though, is just one of the many reasons I never sit *anything* on top of a car.

I have recently dropped my Retina IIa, but got a replacement while that one makes the long, slow trip to NZ.

I have also dropped my M2. 🙁 IT was in a soft bag, but it screwed the rangefinder alignment all up.
