That's actually not far from the real truth. There was a hell of a buzz when Fuji made it clear they were entering the serious compact market but like all news eventually it becomes stale. The frenzy at RFF and generally across the net when the X100 was announced, hasn't been seen for any new camera since IMO.

I mean do you really expect them to maintain maximum buzz well between camera releases? They built their user base, and as they're available used for cheaper more people will try them.

The only way they'll build up that kind of a buzz is to go full frame, which I really don't think is necessary. I'm not spending $3k on a Fuji full frame body and lenses, which is probably what it would cost.

Fuji is so last year...

Shooters are going back to Leica M cameras
while shoppers are fantasizing about the next fad camera.

This has been the opposite of my experience.

I've moved to Fuji for most of my non-DSLR work & I don't think I've picked up my M8 since I got the Fuji. I've used my M4-P a few times, but only because I still love shooting film.

My Fuji is getting all of the digital work and has become a good complement to my Canon DSLRs for weddings (in fact, the X-Pro1 is now my main pre-wedding preparation camera, replacing Leica gear in that role).

I've found the high ISO & its handling with M-mount lenses to be much better for my shooting style & the lenses I've been using (e.g. focus shift of the Nokton 1.1 & Jupiter-3). Only thing I don't like is the slight shutter lag which has cost me one or two shots at fast paced events (i.e. weddings), but it was too dark for me to shoot with the M8 at the time anyway, so Leica definitely couldn't have got the shots either.

Getting the X-Pro1 has actually killed my M9 / M240 GAS entirely & I'm now just focusing on shooting with the gear I have and not thinking about any future purchases at all (except maybe another X-Pro1 or an XE-1, or holding off for the X-Pro2).

My best reference is Flickr. Look up the camera model and see the images published.
I general its mediocre at best. Not speaking about image quality. I am sure the camera/lens is capable of taking good shots. But just in general the images people create is for me an indicator about most users and they way they handle their tool.

i'm pretty sure stephen was yanking on the fuji chain...growth in forums and the flickr groups shows that fuji is indeed still on the rise. the anticipated s models are starting a new buzz and even has me thinking of selling the xpro but keeping the xe1...

What about the new RX1? I was reading a review of the camera in the local paper and they quoted a price here of $3200.00 😱

I seriously wonder how many of those they will sell at that price ... and I can't help but wonder what Fuji may have on the back burner!

Fuji x w/ 18mm is an incredible combo....I don't know what people are moving on to if they have this combo or even the 14. My only issue with the camera is taking the grip off for battery or SD card change......🙂

We'll have to see how the x100s performs. If it really has the fastest focus in town, it will be a huge hit. If that was exaggeration, then things will slow down at fuji. The lens lineup is also a really important element.

I'm not convince that the FF items like the Sony one will be huge hits. FF is still just catching on in the DSLR market and they are turning it into another pixel size race - not what we need. I'm not convinced that the x100 sensor is really inferior to the xp1 sensor, so I definitely don't want to start shooting 40mp size files just because they are bigger (referring to what it might go to).

There is definitely a lot of life left in the camera market - iphones haven't eliminated them...yet 🙂

The 14/2.8 XF should arrive at my doorstep on Friday.

I plan to upgrade to whatever OVF/EVF XF body follows the X-Pro 1 and use my X-Pro 1 for a back up body.

The 23/1.4 and 56/1.4 are on my list.

I am not planning on buying anything new bodies or lenses from Nikon or anyone else. But I am selling my X100 after I photograph it and list it here.

Get one of these grips, you don't have to remove it.

The vertical plate can be removed if you don't need an Arca plate.

I agree with what you imply - that the xp1 is by far the best of the x bodies and I like your lens choices.

When I first jumped on my x100 I viewed it as basically a 35mm lens - cost was near top of line lenses and it fit in my pocket.

That incredible freedom of great IQ and fitting in your pocket still has a hold on me. I'll likely sell my xe1 and buy a new x100s at some point here ;🙂

The XE-1 ia a different camera than a DSRL or a bridge which can work (make choises?) well in the hands of a not experienced user (my wife gets good results from her D-5100). She only has to worry for framing 😀
But for what I have seen the XE-1 needs some experience from the user in order to get good results, in this way similar to a RF camera. I think that many people just buy it under the emphasis of high quality in the pictures seen in the advertising but than realize that to make a good photo you need much more than a good tool.
Personally I have not yet taken the plunge, I'll probably take it in one of the next weeks. I had aleady bought one if the 56/1.4 had been on the market...

This is it exactly. If new technology sells well when it comes out, you just know there will be a glut of them on the used market in a few months.

I would be happy with any of the Fuji X series, were I in the market.

Let those go for sale, the more the better.
So I can scoop one up once the price falls under my threshold for digital cameras.

Agree also. I think the X series cameras are like improved, digital equivalents of the old Kyocera Contax G2 (X-Pro1) & Konica Hexar AF (X100). Those were niche cameras for folks who wanted many of the advantages of RFs, but couldn't afford/didn't want to pay Leica prices or wanted new features like autofocus. So while they have some of the advantages of both dSLRs & RFs, they also share some of the disadvantages of both, & as others have noted, they're not exactly cheap.

Based on my own experience & that of friends who tried & ditched the X-Pro1, I would say the lackluster, compared to a dSLR, AF is indeed the greatest hangup, especially since the alternative of the EVF is not quite there as far as providing a dSLR-like experience. I can make the X-Pro1 work for me (just like I can still work my G2), & will keep it as a backup for my 240, if or when it arrives, but it will never be my primary digital camera because of its pokey/erratic AF performance in low light, which is 90% of my digital shooting (same is true for my D700). If I shot digital a lot during the day, it would be perfectly suitable, but its AF doesn't fit my available darkness needs. Overall, I believe the type of photographers who are looking for a Leica alternative tend to be serious amateurs who are very picky about their equipment & are obviously willing to churn through gear in search of the right tool.
