A tall ship and a star to sail her by?
Just kidding.
Seriously, there is nothing wrong with Tri-X and D76, for many kinds of B&W photography. However, it can be fun to experiment with other films and developers, and it is possible to create things that you can't do with Tri-X and D76. But I agree, it's a do-all kind of combination that covers a lot of bases.

Does anybody know of a one-shot developer with a long shelf life that works as well as D76? I had good luck with Acu-1.

I Easily solved by using 40oz. beer bottles; four filled to the very top and you're set.
Four 40-ouncers generally set me up pretty well too.

The best camera is one that still works!
LOL! Indeed. Truth be told though, they were Budweiser... And while I tried to "do the right thing" by drinking it, the last one went down the drain. I was impatient and valued the developer more than the... "Beer."

That's a 'hanging' offence in Australia ... that and not liking cricket!

Tmax in D76 1+1 is also fabulous. I know the recommended developer is Xtol, but I just find it's not contrasty enough. With D76 the grain comes out enough that I can use my grain focuser!
