What new Voigtlander RF or SLR product would you like to see?

I've been looking at the various CV 35mm lenses for a while, and have not been able to make my mind up. The Ultron was tempting, but was a bit long and is now getting hard to find. I keep getting put off by the barrel distortion and (reports of) focus shift of the f1.4. The f1.2 Nokton is way too big. The f2.5 Color Skopar Classic is close, but also getting hard to find.

What I want, but can't afford, is a 35mm Summicron ASPH - compact, focus tab, sensible max aperture, very good resolution and distortion. I can't help feeling that the Nokton 1.4 was a step too far with its extra stop. If Cosina was to take that basic idea, change it to f2, and sort out the issues that are reported so often, I think they'd be onto a winner.

Chrome plated brass for me, please. :)

Could Cosina do something like the 28-35-50 Tri-Elmar?

What about just two positions? Perhaps simpler/cheaper design and better IQ... Maybe it's possible to make a small 35-50 or 28-50 f/2.5 or around... I'd buy two for my two daily sun and shadows/overcast bodies...

Cheers,

Juan

Is this thread still up?

Ok then. Since my Nikon D70 and its cropped sensor I have been yearning for small, fast primes geared towards 1.5 crop sensors.

Currenty I own a Nikon D200 with 20, 28, 35, 40, 85, 135 and 180 primes in several flavours, all full frame. I also have a Leica M2 with 25, 35, 50 and 90mm lenses.

ALL of these lenses work on my Sony NEX-3 (with adapters).

But still, I don't have a decent fast wide angle. An 18mm lens would be nice here.

My fast 28 Sigma isn't all that good, and rather bulky. A good 28 (becomes a 42 on the D200 and NEX-3) would be great.

There is nothing in my arsenal that would be a 90mm equivalent on the D200 and NEX. Of course they would mean a 60mm.

With an 18, 28 and 60 combo I would be able to cover 95% of all my photography. And if these lenses would exist in F-mount, they would work on the NEX as well.

Cosina/Voigtländer makes a 58/f1.4 SL II in Nikon F mount that comes pretty close to what you want. It's also chipped so that it works on other Nikons as well. $409 at Cameraquest.

I completely forgot about that one. It surely is tempting... My CV 40mm f2 is outstanding so this 58mm would be... nice.

I think a lot of people would love to see this. It's the main reason I've been slow to accept crop sensor digital formats.

Right now, I have enough overlap at the normal-tele ranges that I can use my existing lenses, but I'd definitely buy a 12 or 14mm for Sony NEX. I may consider a fast 24mm too. A coldshoe adapter for the NEX's flash socket thingy (so I can mount a viewfinder) would also be great.

how about remaking the 28 3.5 color-skopar in a M mount (or even just bring back the LTM version) used copies of the discontinued lens are selling for more than they were when new so obviously the demand is there.... I am not the only one that wants one

I don't think we can be too redundant in mentioning that the only current production RF 50mm lens produced with the Voigtlander name is the super Cyclops 1.1 Nokton. A standard 1.4 or 2.0ish 50mm seems like a no brainer, and much needed.

Agreed. A small 50mm f/1.4 or 1.5 ASPH. Close focus 0.7m. Decent bokeh at the expense of wide-open sharpness if necessary. No focus shift.
