a faster 35mm. i have the 50/2 zm and 35/2 zm and really like them but a faster 35 would be nice.

for future purchases the 28 sounds interesting but i wish it were a 2.0 rather than 2.8.

Funny you should ask.

Zeiss asked Frances and me this.

Our answers were nothing like as unambitious as the above.

They gave us to understand that our ideas were achievable.

We wait and hope...

I think the f1.4 35mm would be a seller and I would love to see one, but I will vote for the 50mm (as I use it a lot) and with a modern optical formula on a rangefinder - it would be quite interesting.
 
Roger, I am going to guess a multi-focal length lens. On a completely different line, I believe you have a magnifax 4 enlager, I have just obtained one - any querks I should know about, or have I made a good choice (I plan to do 6x9, 6x7 and 35mm on it). Regards

Why sell a slower lens than the 35/1,2? And why compete with a 35/1.4 made in the same factory?

Unless of course you are talking about German-made lenses, in which case, what is the market for lenses at twice the price (or more)?

For 'made in Germany', Zeiss are interested in 'landmark' lenses, in specification (15/2.8) or performance (85/2) or both. A 35/1 might do it but I doubt there's much market...

i'd love a new 21mm... that is, on MY camera.
and a fast 28 might convince me not to go chasing a hexanon...

on the flip side, if anything from zeiss can make me a better photographer, it probably exists by now.
 
Well the only missing landmark lens I can come up with is a .............. 28/1.4. Now that would be something !

Multi-focus wasn't one of the things we suggested or discussed but no doubt they have asked plenty of others the same question.

The Magnifax is a brilliant choice. We have two, both equipped with Meograde (Multigrade-style) heads, all bought new. Yes we got a press discount but it was still a long way from free!

You might want to check light sealing around the neg holders but a tiny bit of matte black paint or some black flock will make them totally light tight. Even if they aren't, don't worry: we've only ever bothered to lightproof one.

Buy a couple of spare mixing chambers (life 5-15 years -- they darken and go yellow in use) while they're still available. We use 6x9 chambers for all formats: the light gain with smaller chambers ain't worth the effort of changing 'em.

From our discussions (and that wasn't one of our ideas, nor anything we specifically discussed) I believe they could do that. It's another question whether anyone would (a) want to afford it and (b) want to lift it. But as I say, they are pursuing some VERY interesting ideas.

Dear Erik,

Not exactly. Three of the designs have never been tried and the fourth hasn't been tried in over 50 years.

As I say, I don't know if they will go ahead with any of them. But they were more than just politely interested.

Something like a TriElmar 28-35-50. but faster than 4.0.

I like the longer end of M lenses, so even though the ZI isn't spec'd for it, I'd like to see a ZM 135.

oh I don't know, I'd buy at least 10 of them 🙂

how I wish! a 35mm f1 would be the ultimate rangefinder lens, even if you only switched over to it at night. during the day, you could shoot something smaller, like the 35mm f1.2 nokton 🙂

Problem solved! You buy 10, I buy 10, there mist (edit: must!) be eight others who'd buy 10 each, Zeiss can make 'em...

With the size of their current 35/2, i would think a 35/1.4 might be too large. The Zeiss 35/1.4 for the Contax SLR is a very large lens....

I'd love to see them come up with a Noctilux competitor. A 50/1.0 for under $2000, or a 1.2 for under $1500. But, it would have to be good (not "dreamy") wide open.

What else? A collapsible 50/2 or 35/2.8?

I just bought a new 2,8/28 Biogon from Tony Rose, so there's an excellent chance that Zeiss will announce a new fast 28 tomorrow 😀
